After all, since the *ew* surface system *ew* has been introduced in the game, and it doesn't belong in D&D at all, I would like to see a variant rule which returns the way inflict/cure spells work on undead.

Blame WotC, not Larian. This is the way it works in 5e.

I'm not blaming anyone, I'm making a request since the ruleset is being deviated anyway, with surfaces and all

If you enter a flaming surface in D&D you take fire damage. Where's the deviation exactly?

Sure they are. You drop grease on the floor and throw a fire bolt you have a fiery surface. There's loads in the pbh and dmg about surfaces.

Thank you for proving me right. You USE grease THEN cast the cantrip. The cantrip itself does NOT create a fiery or cold surface.
