Seriously, the game is like 90% there: [video:google]https://youtu.be/wSEfMzHEDpQ[/video]

Personally I really like exploring the world this way, but it's quite cumbersome at times because there's no real third person camera support.

I'm not sure of the effort involved from a technical point of view, but from the user's perspective it seems that we just need support for:
a) Controlling the movement of the selected character with WASD
b) Controlling the camera with the mouse directly, without having to keep the middle mouse button clicked at all times

+1. I think a lot of people, including me, have posted about this. It shouldn't be too hard to do since they're so close and WASD movement is already kinda baked in because of controller support. Keeping this camera and adding a toggle for a fully developed third person camera with WASD would be so amazing.

Exactly!

Also the angle of the camera at max zoom in is so fit for third person camera that it's almost like a teaser at this point.

They ( Larien ) need to contact Software inc. or Dungeons and Dragons online, Neverwinter online, and ask them how they are able to create a game where you dont have to control your movement as well as your camera at the same time.. Mouse look is the way to go, it's a no brainer IMO

DRAGON FIRE-AND DOOM Dragons? Splendid things, lad-so long as ye look upon them only in tapestries, or in the masks worn at revels, or from about three realms off...

Agreed. This feels almost necessary to me. One of the first things I did was check in the options if there was a "WASD" mode.

Point and click movement is fine for tactical systems and combat, where your movement is limited and you need to be exact about taking the shortest-path and not wasting movement points, but it’s an absolute relic for actual navigation. I keep instructively trying to move around like it’s Dragon Age or literally any other third person RPG made since 2006, and it keeps moving the camera instead and I just internally sigh.

+1 100 percent agree here. I'd love tilt controls and WASD movement, and more zoom out!

agree here, also camera bugs out on me, moving into walls, point directly up to the sky or stuck on ground level.

IF they can make it work without compromising anything I wouldn't mind, but on a personal level I absolutely don't give a shit about a third person camera nor I would ever use it.
I don't even think the environment are detailed enough to leverage that type of view with great results (don't get me wrong, they are absolutely WONDERFUL by isometric standards, they just don't hold up in detail if you stick the camera at ground level).

I'm far more concerned about getting a decent mouse and keyboard control scheme, on the other hand.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

This would be so cool! This type of camera really enhance the immersion, but Im also more concern about them improving the mouse and keybord controls, because what they have now is very clunky.
