Hello Larian Studios and Fellow Fans!
I was talking with a friend of mine today, and here’s what I spit out at them:
“The actual game is definitely in early access. There’s animation smoothing that needs to happen and the cuts scenes that they added are super janky. The incorporated D&D elements are my FAVORITE! If you find a weapon, it will tell you if you can wield it, and let know you the damage, which is based off the 5e PHB! The combat is fairly okay, but there’s issues there too. Issues with combat are that you don’t know how much you’ll hit for... example: I want to swing my 1d6+3 mace at a monster with 4 hp, done deal, right? NOPE, you can still hit for 1, 2, or 3 points of damage. That part sucks, and it shouldn’t be that way. It seems like there’s an algorithm under the surface that it’s not telling me about. I hope they fix that part, and I will tell them about that on the forums. HOWEVER, considering you can play with up to 4 people in a party, it ought to be really cool to play with friends. Another one of my favorite parts is when you get to make an investigation roll (or whatever), it ACTUALLY rolls a d20!... another NOT favorite parts is that, for combat, they don’t roll any d20s. It will tell you your chances of success, but I wish they would do a little d20 roll against your AC on the screen, even if it was for half a second. I know it makes combat longer, but I want this game to be as close to a D&D session as possible, and that means LOTS and LOTS of click-clack math rocks!“
That being said, if we’re making a game that will appeal to D&D 5e players (like me), you really need to know what we like, and what we like are direct mechanics of D&D, but brought to a video game. EVERY SINGLE TIME a direct element of D&D 5e is brought into the game, I go NUTS! Every time it isn’t direct, the game just becomes so-so. I know it won’t be exactly like D&D 5e, but I just KNOW that it can get close.
Anyway, thank you for reading!
PS: I bought this on Stadia.
