Well I already posted that my teleport pyramids are missing after the patch.

Now, I went to the battlefields and can't get back! I keep trying the option to leave the battlefield, and the screen flashes and I return right back to the battlefield.

Come on Larian.. you gotta do better than this!

Have you tried going back to a previous save? This is the first time I have seen this problem posted. I know it can be a pain going back to a previous save (I had to back to a previous act) but it is a small price to pay to get the game fixed for everyone.

Good luck amigo, hope it works out for ya.

Well I was out of town for a couple of days, so I came home tonight and patched directly from 1.3.2 to 1.4.1
I'm thinking that this was a mistake. I should've patched 1.4 first, then 1.4.1
But that's still Larian's issue. Who doesn't include all former patches in the newest one?

As far as going back a few saves.. I could try that. I don't see why my most current save is bad but one further back would be ok, but hey I'll try anything at this point.

You could always move your savegame directory, uninstall the game, then reinstall it, and move the savegame directory back in place.

The patched to contain all previous patches. The problem is that nobody has accepted the fact that sometimes patches will hose saves. Look at the Fallout line. Patches for those games killed saves constantly, but the game was still improved.

True! but, if the patch was installed with those savegames already there, they could possibly be no good.

i remember when this happened to me in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> with the black maps...my saves were no good... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />
so i deleted them and started fresh...and after that...
i learned my lesson! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Exactly the problem I have in Act 4. I teleport in but can't teleport out.

Jurak > Not everyone has the time or willpower to start over. I'd just be worried something will happen again and again. We can't be expected to start over everytime another bug appears after a patch, otherwise everyone would be permanently in Act 1 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Ok after some testing and trying of suggestions given to me on this board:

My saves were all completly hosed from the patch. Moving the saves, uninstalling, reinstalling, repatching.. trying the different patch versions along the way.. all failed.

Best as I can figure, something went wrong while patching. The save game versions should have been updated to 1.41, but infact remained 1.0 the entire time. I even tried reinstalling and repatching again after moving my saves back to their right place.

I now see that other people are having the problems I have, so I can feel confident that it wasn't something I did wrong.

As far as starting over.. no thanks. I'm not one for replaying games as it is, and I have very little confidence that Larian can resolve this quickly at this point. I don't want to start a new game and hit some bug that hoses me again. I certainly am not going to jump on the next patch thinking it's going to work properly.

I appreciate Larian's efforts in making this game, and trying to fix it. I guess with limited budgets we can't expect proper testing and QA, so I'm just going to delete it and move on. Warlord's Battle Cry 3 should be here for the weekend, so I'll be ok <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Oh.. and just FYI, no I won't return the game. Sure, I should, but I'm going to go on faith that Larian will one day have this fixed and I'll be able to play it through. Also, I want them to make DD2, so they can keep my money and hopefully get enough funds to finish the game and QA it better than this one.

Nothing went wrong with the patching, please quit blaming it on anything just so you don't have to accept the fact that when things change, some things fail. I'm not refering to you specifically, I'm refering to everyone that's been pissing and moaning since the patches came out. When a game's code is altered, andthing that relied on that old code may not be able to recover and adapt to the new code.

Run a Morrowind game with a mod, save, then unload the mod (especially the mod that locks doors after hours). Morrowind will try to adapt and, though this modular method of code replacement is VERY efficient, it NEVER fully recovers and almost always has errors from that point on, unless a new game is started. It's been this way since game designers began releasing patches and will continue until code becomes completely modular.

In many ways the seed generation system used by older games (Civilization II, Dungeon Hack, and other randomly generated games) had the best idea going. The game didn't alter the save, the game generated the save and the save altered the game from that point on. When the game's code was altered, the save's variable remained the smae, but sometimes (in massive patches) would alter something else, showing that even the most efficient methods STILL HAVE THEIR FLAWS!

Instead of whining about all of the flaws that are similar to so many other games in existance, THANK LARIAN for the wonderful game base, awsome music (I admit, I've converted the OGGs into MP3s and have them playing throughout my house lately), great graphical setup that personally in many ways rivals Diablo II... and ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THE GAME RELEASED LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO AND STILL NEEDS SOME WORK!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry if I've vented in the wrong place, but after the onslaught of players with their threats of "throwing the computer out the window" or "returning the game"... how do you think the developers feel? Do you think they want to continue working for the people that hat them for doing what they can? No, they're working for those of us that are taking a work in progress and having fun with it.

PS: To anyone that has complained about the problems, if any of you ever hope to be beta-testers in any way, prepare to be disappointed. This is what you'll get.

Existing saves are not altered, so will still list 1.00 as the version number. When the save is loaded any changes or updates occur then, and new saves will show the version as 1.41.

There is a fine line between whining and reporting bugs.

The team needs to know there are bugs in order to fix them and are by all accouts thankful that we report them.

Do you think I would bother report bugs or indeed registering on this forum if I did not love the game and respect the team ?

Why talk when you don't know what you're talking about? There are bugs even with freshly-started games using the newer patches.

And what's wrong with people reporting bugs? How else do you think they're going to get fixed? Obviously, whatever official QA team exists can't find them.

Old (pre-1.4) saves will ALWAYS show up as version 1.0 in your load game menu. Only saves that you save while running 1.4 (or 1.41) will show up as 1.4 (or 1.41). Doesn't sound like you're seeing anything out of the ordinary.

Prince of Qin was another game with this problem. sadly, it was because the patches were fixing the multiplayer game, ended up breaking the single player game which had no problem at the beginning. finally it seems fixed but i haven't played it in a while, after my 3rd restart, i've left off again. will get back to it eventually. it is a fun game. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

the alternative is to make a backup of your savegame folder before installing the patch. hehe

i make sure i do this. now, of course, if there's a problem, i can fix the game back to the last working version by reinstalling, then copy the saves back into place.

yes, lets turn this into a completely pointless argument about something that is so completely irrelevant, its ridiculous.

please people...so the patch broke something. deal with it. this is to those individuals who feel the need to *hate* here. i understand your frustration. i have vented myself before, but certainly without *hate*. but, once you are done expressing your concerns in a mature fashion, you know that eventually you'll dust off the game and begin anew. i've done it with Prince of Qin. that game was a mess with patches.

heck I've played DD 3 times now, and enjoyed it each time, because while the storyline remains the same, the ways the character grows is different. while diablo 2 is similar in the different characters, for some reason it doesn't share the same magic as the divinity universe.

but i digress. my point is, vent but don't be rude, and be constructive rather than destructive. don't take it out on the development team. report the bug, with the confidence that they are doing their best and hardest fix it, and i'm sure they feel bad to a point...oops. but its all in a days work for them and they'll get it fixed.

I mean, its not like something earthshattering or drastic occurred. no life or love or money was lost. only time that you chose to invest in one of the most frivolous and superfluous of pursuits: a computer video game. keep it in perspective folks. life goes on. so unwad your panties, step away from the computer, take a deep breath, and take a walk. its beautiful outside. trust me i know... i've been there

Did I say reporting was a problem? No, I was venting about all the people that are doing nothing but complaining about the problems that have shown up and done nothing but complain and threaten to throw away their games; the childish ones that do nothing constructive. Those that have been participating, reporting, and trying to enjoy things even through all of the problems are not the target of that post. I apologize if my post was misplaced, but I felt it needed to be said. And please don't say I don't know what I'm talking about when you know nothing about me or my experience. Everything I said I know out of experience beta-testing, playing, and experimenting with games.
