Ok, I talked to Kratus and figured out the murderer was a vampire. Searched Pierce's house from top to bottom, including the cellar but nothing. None of the speech options with Pierce or Kratus have changed. Am I missing something? Where do I go from here?

Go back to the cellar in Pierce's house. There is a secret doorway in the north of the cellar, blocked by boxes and stuff. Move all the stuff out of the way, and you should be able to enter the doorway. When you've killed the vampire talk to Pierce and Commander Kratus again.
