I am not certain if I am just ignorant of the D&D 5e ruleset, missing some button, or this is actually a bug, but, a simple longsword shows a one handed/two handed stats. I created a two weapon fighting Ranger but I noticed that when I equip a longsword, it's always wielded in two hands. In case race mattered (small race with medium sized weapon means two handed), I am a Drow.

Anyone experience this?

It's because a longsword has the versatile trait so the game currently defaults to it being used two handed if the second hand is empty.

I haven’t tried this, but maybe whenever you equip a versatile weapon without a shield or off-hand weapon the character uses it two handed. That would make sense.

Yes, I tried equipping to the offhand, it wouldn't let me equip it. I tried equipping another weapon first then equip it, didn't work.

I forgot, I’m 5E you can only dual wield two light weapons until you get the feat that lets you do otherwise.

If you equip a shield you will use a longsword with one hand. If you want to dual wield you need to go with shortswords or other light weapons.

So, ignorance of 5e is my issue. Okay, it requires a feat to wield a non-light one handed weapon. Thanks!
