I'm moving from 1st to 2nd level and the screen says Maximum Hit Points.

A Rogue is d8 HP. My Rogue has CON 13 = +1 HP per level

The screen is only showing 15 total at 2nd Level.

This also happened on the WIZ and Fighter, how are HP calculated if its other than basic 5E maths?

Maximum HP means my Hit die + my CON bonus MAX

By the standard rules in the players handbook at first level you get your full hit dice + con so your rogue's hit dice is a d8 so you get 8+1 = 9 hp for first level.
After first level you get the average of your hit dice rounded up + con.
So you get the average of 8 which is 4.5 and rounded up is 5 + your con of 1 which is 6. 6 + 9 = 15. That is how it is calculated.
It could be better explained in game. I hope that helps.

Hi thanks for the reply.

I understand how it works according to the PHB and I do give my players the option of rolling or taking the average HP at the table.

My observation now is that the screen to the right when you click to level up says:

Through experience, you acquire new power.

You gain the following traits:

"Maximum Hit Points Per Level "

Does that mean from here on out I get Max or what?

And I agree not explained very well

We should have the option of choosing to receive either MAX or click a dice to roll our own, or just take the average.

I'm pretty sure they mean average but just have not updated the text to represent this. It says max for all characters but you always get the average.
