Has Larian officially confirmed that gnomes will be in the official release later?

Soon in EA I would say. There is an update video, number 6 I think, in which the cinematic designer says "like when you play a gnome...". So they will definitely be in.

My DM mentioned this in our session last night, the reason Gnomes arent playable is because in 5e Gnomes can't be turned into mindflayers, so they wouldnt bother trying to kidnap one etc.

Fascinating!

maybe there will be gnome NPC's later, I hvanet played much cause of bugs so no spoilers pelase - I really like it so far smile

There are already gnome NPCs in the game, so I don't see why not.

That lore is irrelevant. Halflings also typically can’t be turned into mind flayers either, and I think the same might be true for dwarfs. Either this old canon is being retconned or it has something to do with these not being normal mind flayer tadpoles.

This has confused me as well. They have 4 Elven races ( yes I count the 1/2 ones as a separate entity), but no gnomes? I could have done with out the 1/2 Drow and had my beloved gnomes instead., but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will be added at a later EA update!

I'm hoping Tabaxi will be added at some point, but they're not base PHB, so either they won't or they will only be after full launch.

All PHB races are confirmed for the final installment of the game. I hope for some more.

And yeah, usually ceremorphosis could be used in gnomes(and other creatures that usually are not suitable, like dragons, lizardfolk, etc), with a high mortality rate. When it succeeded you create a gnome half-ilithid called Gnome Ceremorph

Others like duergar, centaurs, dwarves, halflings could be hosts for a tadpole, but they invariably died, if you follow the usual lore of D&D5e. I do not know how´s going to be with dwarves and halflings in the game.

I'll point out that these Tadpoles are special mutate Tadpoles, so the previous limitations are irrelevant.

I have no doubt Dragonborn, Gnomes, and Half-Orcs will be in and more besides.

+1 on adding Gnomes. From what I have read so far, it looks like they will be added. For the life of me I do not understand why they even have halfings. They are a direct rip of from Tolkien while Gnomes are in a variety of myths and legends. Playing a Forest Gnome Druid would be amazing.

I hate to break it to you, but orcs were invented by Tolkien and mythological elves, dwarfs, and goblins are nothing like what are found in D&D. If we are getting rid of Tolkien rip-offs we will need to gut a lot of lore out of the game. 😂

From this game, warcraft, pathfinder, witcher, etc and basically half of the fantasy books and movies based on them of the past century, I think.

it's like a small but terrible cuttlefish lol! Anyways I am sure gnomes will be an option soon. Considering there is a deep gnome NPC, I am sure we'll probably get deep, rock, and forest, especially since they didn't hold back on the elf and half-elf options smile
