I think a word from our character like "Oh, well, it's empty" would suffice. Having to open empty crates with no loot over and over again and having to close them each time is just too boringly redundant.

You can spacebar to quickly take all from the empty containers as you go. Still sucks, but better than clicking on the container and then moving your mouse to the pop up.

I think they need to drastically cut back on the number of containers in every area. I know this is sort of an old school running joke of finding loot in random barrels but this is one tradition that needs to go away. It is absurd that everywhere I go there are dozens and dozens of barrels, crates, chests, cupboards, bookshelves, bags, vases, etc. all filled with random loot waiting for us to find. And have you noticed that for a lot of the bookshelves, each shelf has to be opened individually. Really?

Between the horrible party control, tedious inventory management and never ending supply of containers to open, I feel like it takes 2 hours to make minimal progress in the story. At some point they will start to advertise how many hours long the game is and it will sound impressive until you actually play and discover most of that time is spent in tedious UI interaction not actual story.

I agree with this suggestion.
Something has to be done because you spend many minutes opening every containers while more than half of them are empty.

That's a little bit boring.

2 solutions : impossibility to open empty containers or less useless containers.

I think the best solution would be something akin to Skyrim's approach - inform the player of the "Empty" status before the container is interacted with. Like seeing "Barrel (empty)" upon hovering the cursor over the object.
