I am having trouble installing the game. When I try to install the game says there is an error in the very beginning of installation. The messages are about a story.pdf file. They read:

An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.

The file C:\Program Files\Divine Divinity\Run\UNRAR.LOG could not be opened.

Corrupt Installation File

I returned the game thinking that was the problem but the new one has the same exact problem. The guy at the store told me to try disconnecting my broadband connection, turn of my virus program, and physically disconnect my burner. I have done all of this and it still doesn't work. Please help me out if you can.

If you are truly getting an I/O error while reading that file, it sounds like your hard drive is dying, not any CD.

If running Win2K or XP, check your event log. Start->Run->eventvwr.exe. Look for misc bad block errors on your HD in your system log.

I'm seeing the same thing. Tried 2 different copies (from the same store) and it will not install. Gets almost done with the first CD then just stops. The Event Viewer gives me a bunch of:

"An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation."

I have recently installed KotOR and Call of Duty (about 3 weeks ago) and Far Cry yesterday so I don't think there is anything wrong with my CR-ROM drive or my HD. I'm not sure what to do now except maybe try a 3rd copy from a diffrent store (maybe this one got a bad batch?).

Any ideas?

Thanks......

Sounds like your CD-ROM had a problem reading the disc. Could be something peculiar to the way the Beyond Divinity discs were manufactured.

I'd try: (1) updating the firmware on your CD-ROM if applicable (2) try installing from a different CD-ROM drive (3) getting a third copy

BTW, do you have any of those CdRom0 errors in your event viewer prior to the Beyond Divinity attempts? Has it been going on for a while or it it unique to the BD discs.

Do you have a different optical drive you can try? Try copying the 3 files from the CDs to the same folder on the hard drive and installing from there.

Hey Drock - Try installing the game on a different partition other than drive C: If you only have one partition than do deframentation on c:drive and try installation again. Your hard drive may contains bad cluster in the front section of the partition.

I've tried all of the above methods at attempting and it still gets stuck on the same file. If anyone else has any ideas, please help me out.

Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't counting the autorun.inf file.
Are you shutting down all background programs before trying to install? If the problem was with the CD-ROM or CD, you'd think there would have been an error copying the install files.

I honestly believe some discs are corrupt. I finally was able to get one to work. But it wasn't easy.

I tried 2 different copies from the little game store at the mall (can't remember the name). Both of these failed the installation in the same manner. They would get towards the end and hang on a file called CPackedb.12c (I think that was the name of it). It would hang here every time. I tried this on both my computers at home and it would hang at the same place on both of them. I then bought a third copy from circuit city. Same exact thing. Ok, I then decided it was going to be me or the game. One way or another I was going to play this stupid game. So I then, and it needed it anyways, it was making some funky noises sometimes, went out and bought a new CD-ROM drive. Installed it. Same thing. It would hang on that same file.

Oh, I forgot to mention, that with my old CD-ROM drive after MANY failed installation attempts I decided to try and load the free copy of Divine Divinity that came with BD. The 3 CD installation worked like a champ no problem what so ever. So I knew there wasn't anything inherently "bad" with my CD-ROM drive or my hard drive. So anyway, I then tried my 2nd copy from circuit city (4th copy all together) and it worked like a champ. When it raced past that file it had always got hung up on and asked me to insert disk #2 I almost started crying I was so happy

So anyways. Sorry for the long post but I would be surprised to find out if the trouble you are having is anything more than just bad game CDs.

Good luck.........
