I've been enjoying the game thus far, and I'm excited to see how the systems improve and evolve over EA. One place where I'm having some frustration is with the presentation and handling of death saves. When a character is downed and their turn arrives, the save is made automatically and usually happens so quickly (along with a sudden shift of the camera to the next combatant in initiative order) that I never know if the roll was a success or failure without glancing at the tiny text in the combat log. I find this to be a very anti-climactic experience!

In addition, if a character is downed when combat ends, the game drops turn-based mode and the death saves happen automatically every ~6 seconds in real time, which doesn't allow for great reaction time to have surviving characters run over and use the help action/cast healing spells.

It would be nice if we could toggle death saves to be a manual process in combat; this would give them a bit more weight and impact. It would also be nice to choose whether or not turn-based mode is automatically activated when a character drops to 0hp, or to keep turn-based on at the end of combat if a character is downed.

I have no idea what the Death Save Graphic is trying to tell me personally laugh

I think manually rolling death saves is not a bad idea.

They can happen outside of turn-based combat too, but in that case, turn-based should be forced for all those nearby, much like the manual toggle for turn-based mode.

Dying character rolls a d20 every time it's their turn. If 10 or below, they fail, if 11 or above, they succeed. 3 fails mean you die, and in DnD 3 successes mean you're stabilized and won't die, but not sure if that the case in this game, or if your character gets back up with 1 HP because I never got to that point. A character getting hit when they're dying also adds to the fail counter. You're also supposed to get +2 fails if you get crit, but I'm confident this is not the case in the game because I'm fairly sure one of my characters got crit while dying and only got one added. Not sure if bug or feature.

The little graphic has 3 segments on each side, with the light side being successful rolls, and the dark side being failed rolls.

changing to turn based whenever a character is downed is a great suggestion.

a definite +1 from me.

that would have saved my characters so many times.
