win7 64 bit. please do not reply with "upgrade to windows 10". I've heard every argument, and dont care to hear them here again.

game crashes on startup. dx11 exe was able to launch after setting launch in compatiblity mode for windows 7. after playing for some time, exiting the game and reloading gave me the same blackscreen.

the fix remains valid, in fact i found the next fix today - delete the user profile folder in my documents...

this allowed me to launch the game again and play.

game crashed after about 60 minutes, and again, refuses to launch to anything but a dead black screen now. Window focus gets oddly messed up from the load-freeze.

deleted my documents BG3 folder...and voila, game works again.

I was having the same issues on windows 7 64 bit, and found a solution. If you hold down shift while pressing play on the larian launcher with the game set to dx11, and have the bg3dx11.exe set to run as administrator, then the game will launch fine. Someone in another thread that I can't find right now found out that windows 7 had 2 versions of run as administrator, one which requires shift to be held in order to actually elevate priveledges.

I seem to be having problems with the larian launcher, pushing play doesnt do anything at all to launch the game, i only seem to be able to launch from the exe directly. pushing SHIFT does not help solve the problem.

I have this issue again. Before this update, I was able to run the game as administrator and play. Since this update, I'm back to square one. Cannot run the game on either graphics option, both options cause a crash. Win7 64, etc etc.....the usual.

Oh.....so, I missed that nvidia did an update just on the 7th. I installed it and now the game is running again.

Uncheck all compatibility and admin modes in you exe files, then try to launch (directly or through launcher) holding Shift key ; I noticed launcher didnt work anymore when I set the exe to run as admin (set for all users > run as admin enabled).

Basically dont mess with exe files, only hold shift and all should be good with up to date visual C redistrib and display drivers.

Holy christ, holding shift is working for me. What in gods name...

this is the correct fix for this problem.

Holding left shift worked for me as well. I was able to play for several hours today after trying to load multiple times the last couple of days - I did the Nvidia update on the 7th but still was not able to load until I read the post on the left shift. These forums are amazing. I did load it before but I bet that I probably accidentally pressed shift and it launched
