Just curious if I can grab her somewhere on my first playthrough or if she's in the wind because I never got the encounter of her being trapped?

I missed her too. I wonder how common that is.

Edit: Played a little further; guess you can't actually miss her outright.

I was assuming she just leaves the initial location you find her and you find her later, thanks for confirmation.

I asked her to say please and she and the cage disappeared.
