I am embarrassed to say that I only just discovered that you could read the books lying around after I had done most of Battlefield 1. So, my question is: do these books keep repeating? Or, do I need to start over again and read all the books. Thanks Howard

You'll keep finding copies of the same books...
of course, there are a couple of kinds of books that are special: Skill Books, and the Ranaar language teaching books.

but those are unlikely to impossible to find in the battle fields, thankfully. those are reserved for the main game, so you haven't missed anything.
most of the books contain drivel anyway. unless you like that sort of thing, it may seem kind of neat. but what i meant was, mostly they are not relevant to the game. they are dungeon dressing. here pass the croutons. Got a fork?

Hmmmm......but I was not reading the books in the main game itself for the whole early part of Act 1. I'm confused......... Howie

The most important book in Act 1 is the Nikodemus manuscript => giving a clue how to build a bomb. And a note from Gen. Bram, indicating, you should be careful. Most are just adding atmosphere to the game, some contain cooking recipes - I read them all, cause I like deciphering on my own. And there is one note in a corpse (in Raanaar) - giving a clue about an important helper.
Act 2 => well, if a book says something like "diary" => please, read it. And I hope, you like the high leveled Shakespearian Imp poetry the same as I do (Love under the mushrooms). Some books contain hints.

Thanks Kiya for your usual prompt help. You are a wonderful resource for the game! My concern is twofold: 1-Have I missed something crucial? (I've just found Battlefield 1 in Act 1) 2-There are many notes that I have that look like gibberish. I cannot decipher them. (why?) Best Howard

Other than the book Kiya mentioned, there is nothing crucial before the first BF key in act 1, and even then the book isn't required.
The gibberish are actually Raanaar ruins. There are 3 books located throughout the game which will 'teach' you this language, and translate these manuscripts for you. The ruins are derivations of standard letters, so it is also possible (though not necessary) to figure them out manually.

http://www.kiya1.de/beyond/act1screens/Nikoms0.pngthis is the book I talked about - as the gamer can find it in lvl 1, Act 1 => it may save you the trouble to trudge through all levels again. The ingredients are scattered and far apart. It was just a hint, nothing crucial. Act 3 => if you are lucky and find "the portal of Rixx" book, I'm currently searching for this needle in a haystack => you get another clue for a quest there. No, not necessary either - but books help to put odds and ends together. Act 4 => I advise strongly to faithfully read then. It's an Academy after all - up to then, you should be able to read Raanaar, otherwise you're in trouble to understand this act.

Just one question. Where are all the books for the raanaar language? I found one in act1 near the hidden holy vault.

The second is near the end of act 2, after visiting the shaman's cave. I believe the 3rd book is in act 3.

Corect - so, Jolie, if you're curious to read some manuscripts => take them with you and read them in the end of act 3 Kiya

Heh why bother, it's a simple substitution cypher they used. No need for the language books to read it. Just grab some paper and write down in plain english what the texts say.
The texts are usually not vital for the progress of the game. For example all Ranaar texts I've found in act 1 are just flavour. Maybe except one that combines a hint with the background story.

There are also 2 (I think) books that contain an item so you should check all books.
I only found one of the Raanaar translation books, but by the time I was in Act 4 I had learned to read the Raanaar books without translating them. I thought that was pretty funny and felt so smart... until I got to the next trial and felt so dumb again

Hi! I am stuck at first summoning test cause i cant read any of summoning books. I've only found 2 books(i think) that teach to read raanaar, so what? now everything is lost? should start over because of this?

No, there are two options.
1) try to decipher the remaining letters by trying to interpret the partially formed words.
2) Spoiler : make use of the toy at www .digitaljesters .com/raanaar (note spaces before . to fool the autoformatting)

You need: Spoiler : the wisdom rune => rune room, 2nd last rune the Feynur potion => from mage Markunthar, either by fight or luring him away the Kohar root => from Nixfix, by trading against a mushroom in the East part of the Tunnels, lvl 1 a spider leg => specimen room
Have you got all? Please, highlight to read.
Now talk to the instructor - he will take the rune, tell you to place the rest within the circle and read the book.

Yes, look at the north wall of the rune room => the 2nd last rune symbol (reading from left to right) is the wisdom rune symbol. Click on it - fight the imp, get the rune. Kiya
Remember where Ansukar's classroom is? NE? Look at the symbol on his wall and compare it with the symbols in the rune room => 2nd last rune
