I get it that BG3 has inherited Divinity OS's party mechanics, with the chain interlinking characters that follow the selected character and unconnected characters having independent movement, but it would be very interesting to see the mechanic of a party leader and the selection boxes original do Baldur's Gate. I think it's a simpler way of positioning characters before an encounter and makes for more intuitive gameplay. Would love to see insights on this idea, discussion on its relevance, and if people also feel like it would be a good addition to full release or later early access.

here is what i thought about it: (good to see that i am not the only one grin )

it would be nice to have a button to chain and unchain the party. it should be available only when the entire party is in close proximity to eatch other. otherwise the members would start running through every trap and so on.

as a second additional option, it would be nice to have a buton on each party member to have them chained or unchained.

the other variant would be to get rid of the chaining all together and use classic RTS style management. have them grouped together when pressing and holding left mouse button to select them in a square. and controll only one party member if selected only one party member with left click.

the second variant would suit me the best i think.

and of course it would also be good to have a waypoint system when holding shift to so you can make a pre difined path to walk through to avoid traps like the ones that get you entagled.

the camera should not be focused on characters. it should be free roaming.

Fully agree with you.
It might be the more conservationist BG player in me, but the old movement system was so much more responsive to the game and flavorful of the franchise. Would be really cool if the went with it, at least as a variant option (toggleable or something like that).

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

It seems a lot of people have brought it up (realized from your thread) but we keep missing each others posts... Anyway, glad to see its a topic of discussion. Maybe we will get Larian's attention towards the movement system on a future update or with the release of 1.0.

Here's to hoping...
