So, I wanna give a bit of feedback and suggestions for a couple cantrips and some magic items. The biggest thing here is the Firebolt cantrip, it's stupidly OP for a starting cantrip. Even if you miss, it deals damage. I have had critical misses with firebolt but it didn't really matter because the stupid thing explodes on the space of the target and leaves a fire surface behind which sets them on fire and deals burn damage anyway, and then as soon as they move out of the surface it deals burn damage again! Firebolt shouldn't leave a burning surface on the ground, it should have a chance of setting people on fire when it hits them, not when it completely misses. It should set people and objects on fire, not the ground itself. If this would mess with puzzles such as the poison gas clouds in one section that you use fire to get rid of, simply add an object you can set on fire in or near the cloud. Also, Freezing Ray also has this problem. Even if it completely misses it can still knock an enemy prone and creates an ice surface under them. I know you like creating elemental surfaces Larian, but it doesn't work here. It was cool in DOS2, but when you're pulling spells and stuff from a rulebook that already tells us how they should work and then add surface mechanics to them, it just breaks them. I've killed enemies using firebolt and freezing ray with ever actually hitting them with the cantrips just because of burning damage that shouldn't have been applied in the first place and knocking them prone constantly. As for magic items, why are there so freaking many?! Magic items in D&D are great finds that are pretty rare and expensive, and can help bridge a bit of that power gap between you an your enemy, but you typically have to go into some pretty dangerous situations to get your hands on one. Meanwhile BG3 tosses them at me like candy on halloween, I've got a stupid amount of magical items I didn't have to do anything for. I have gloves that can apply bane to an enemy when I hit them with an attack (though these are currently either bugged or I'm missing an aspect to them, as they apply bane to me instead of my enemy), a necklace that lets me cast a level 3 Speak with Dead spell at will as many times as I want essentially, and even 2 or 3 weapons with nice effects to them. And I barely had to do anything to get them! The only magic items I found so far in the game that actually present a bit of challenge to obtain are one guarded by an owlbear, and one at the end of the hags lair. That's it, all the others are basically just laid out on a silver platter for me. Not to mention the fact that healing potions are all over the place, I've got like 15 regular healing potions and 3 superior ones! And the traders, while I can't currently actually afford to buy them, sell an obscene amount of magic items and weapons with special effects to them. These things are supposed to be rare and special, aren't they? So why do the first traders I ever come across in the game have like 15 special items between them just sitting around gathering dust? Don't get me wrong, I am very much enjoying the game and can't wait to see how it develops, but it feels less like D&D and more like Divinity: Tales from the Swordcoast or something. Now let's talk about the companions...they suck. Unless more companions are planned to be added at some point down the line, I'm stuck with 2 companions (Shadowheart and Lae'zel) who are the worst people I have ever met. They hate basically everything I do and treat my character like complete garbage the entire time. The only companion that is actually decent to you is Gale, the wizard. And we're limited to these 3, or swapping one out for the sketchy vampire rogue or the pretty cool warlock Wyll who's companion storyline is totally gonna end up sending us to hell or something. Wyll's story smells like Lohse all over again to me. This was a lot more ranting than I meant for it to be, but come on guys. You've made simple cantrips OP, tossed magic items all over the place so they feel less like powerful boons to my party and more like a neat new trinket I can sell in 30 minutes or so after I find a new, better version of it, and I have a cleric who almost never needs to heal my party because I have enough healing potions to cure the wounds of every person I come across. And you've also made companions that I don't actually want to heal because I don't really want to be stuck traveling with these jerks for the rest of our journey, but I can't get rid of them either or I'd be at a massive disadvantage. I really do have high hopes that some of this will change down the line as the game develops, but right now I'm playing Divinity 3 that happens to include races and classes from Dungeons and Dragons. And all this in the same month that Solasta: Crown of the Magister is going to hit EA on steam, which may not have the more unique races of D&D and is missing some of my favorite classes as well, but more than makes up for that by giving a world that actually feels closer to D&D than Baldur's Gate 3 does.

Larian has said many times more companions will be added, even in the EA. They gave us these "unlikeable" characters because they want to encourage us to try play evil characters, as people generally play good characters in the full game, and they want people to see that being evil can be rewarding too. Thus several of the companions are sort of evil too, to match you. They will add "good" companions later on in the EA.
