I used guidance on my character before engaging in a dialogue with a certain person early on (you know the one with all them checks involving a poison and antidote). The ability checks were either unaffected, or negatively affected. I was rolling consistently lower than 5 no matter how many times I tried to do this. And I reloaded and tried again many, many times to rule out chance. My conclusion was that the guidance effect was applying negatively.
Also, it artificially lowered the DC. One such occasion, the DC is showing as 18 normal, but I had proficiency and a +3 modifier, so that's a +5. Somehow, the system included the full guidance effect of +4 as the "number to meet". So the screen is saying the DC is a 18-5(-4) = 9. My dice rolled a 9, but the game tells me I failed. Upon hovering over the roll details, it shows the guidance dice was actually a +1, so I didn't meet the DC. This was really confusing.
After this moment is where the guidance effect began to behave erratically. Some ability checks didn't even show a preview of the guidance. On top of this, my dice rolls were horrifically low, consecutively, reload after reload (applying guidance again for each attempt).
Has anyone else encountered this interaction? It's very tilting for a layered check situation already.
