Why not take the difficulty level, which is a function of player skill points and monster hit points, and split 'em in two? That way, those of us who want more skill points can get that and still receive a reasonable challenge from opponents. It has the added advantage of providing extra shades of difficulty, like hardcore monsters with a greater number of skill points, or easier monsters but fewer skills available to the player. Worth a thought, at least.

That's a good idea.

Another way this could be done, similar to Diablo II: After completing the game, you can set the game to "double-time". Monsters are twice as hard and give twice the experience, hence twice the skill points.
