What is the current thinking on the best way to start a warrior off. Specifically (and feel free to comment on anything else):

1. For the first few levels what is a good set of attributes? Go with the default template and spread points around, go with the default template and add points to strength and vitality, or other?

2. Same for skills. Where should those first precious points best be spent (e.g. if there are no good swords until chapter 256 but a load of great maces crush is a bit more useful than slash - if detect traps 1 will save my life over and over in Chapter 1 that may be a "must get" skill even for a warrior).

3. Is there a clearly preferable division between main character and DK other than the standard "whichever you prefer based on your playstyle"? For example, is it REALLY useful to have a particular skill set to get through the beginning or would two hack and slash warriors be as good as anything else?

I'd replay the start a few dozen times and test it all out but my disk isn't cooperating <sob> and after playing one session I can't get back into the game <whimper> (yes I did a search, checked the FAQ and posted in the technical forum). This post is partly to show the Gods a perhaps irrational optimism that all will be well and I'll actually be able to play <knocks on wood> <must have hit too hard - the tree dies> <"rez please!!">

Reality is for those who cannot cope with fantasy. Fortunately, I can cope quite well.

Here is what I did up to level 10 (almost level 30 now, but that is too much to post):

Hero (1-H Slashing w/Shield):
1-H slashing-accuracy; str(2)/agility/speed/con
Bow-accuracy; Perm Survival potion/str(3)/agility/con
1-H Slashing-damage; str(2)/agility/survival/speed
Bow-accuracy; str(3)/survival/agility
1-H Slashing-accuracy; str(3)/survival/con
Bow-accuracy; Con(2)/str/agility/survival
1-H Slashing-damage; agility(3)/str(2)
1-H Slashing-accuracy; str(2)/speed/survival/accuracy
1-H Slashing-damage; agility(3)/speed/str

DeathKnight (1-H Slashing w/shield, then 2-H slashing after finding a trainer):
1-H Slashing-accuracy; str(2)/agility/ con/speed
Repair; str(3)/agility/con
1-H Slashing-damage; str(2)/survival(2)/agility
1-H Slashing-accuracy; str(3)/agility/speed
1-H Slashing-damage; str(3)/agility/con
1-H Slashing-accuracy; str(2)/survival(2)/agility
Bow-accuracy; con(2)/str(2)/survival
1-H Slashing-damage; str(3)/speed/survival
1-H Slashing-damage; str(2)/speed/con/agility
NOTE: switched to 2-H at level 18

This should give you a good start. Concentrate on strength, agility, and survival and you will go through the toughest monsters with ease. Hope that helps ya <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

but isnt it so that if you equip a shield, your accuracy on the 1hs weap complete vanishes?

how to remain your accuracy you get from your 1hs when equiping shield?

can anyone give info on this?

Unlearn 1h slashing and learn 1h+shield slashing. That is the only way.

You can get it at one of the merchants in the act one battlefield. And I think there is a guy who will teach it to you somewhere around the trainingground in the citadel.

mmm dagn
im already in act 2 .... any place there where i can learn it?

are you sure the skill is called one hand slashing with shield?
or isnt it just : shield skill (blocking etc to train?)
and really slash+ shield....

because shield alone ive seen already

because, i really want to keep my damage/accuracy on the slashing weap...

Don't confuse those skills. There are 3 different ones:

1-H Melee Slashing skill
Shield skill
1-H Melee with Shield Slashing skill

Pretty sure it is Olaf in the BattleField who sells the 1-H with Shield skill.

aha
thanks for clearing that out
its a bit confusing <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

although i do wonder why anyone (who doesnt know this , like me ) would choose for 1hs alone, or shield alone... if you get the bunch in 1 pack!
or cant you train block etc in the 1hs-shield skill?

btw , olaf is he in lvl 1 bf? ...

Grim, which 3rd skill do you mean? Shield blocking in Warrior defense specialties?

The other 2 are Warrior melee skills, I understood that.

:mm im confused now

so in order to get shield blocking >

you have to train 1hs with shield + shield skill , to get benefit from both damage and blocking ?

Pretty sure I saw a trainer that had just "Shield" that would be the 3rd one. I could be mistaken, but thought I saw that. So that would be training in 1-H Melee, or Shield, or 1-H Melee with Shield. If that is an error, sorry... these final Act4 tests are destroying my sanity <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, learnt cussing. Who says this place is for sex, drugs and rock'n slash? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

About the shield confusion =>
Warrior defense specs allows to block an attack while wearing a shield.

1-hand + shield boosts your fighting skills when fighting with a shield and is divided into acc., dam., durability, critical hit and deathblow. Same as the 1-hand slash/pierce/crush weapon.

You should be able to get both of the skills at the merchants in the act two battlefield too
