Hi all!

I was wondering if it were possible to have an in-game avenue for altering chosen Cantrips? I'm ~16 hours in, and now I have a handle on the comabt system, I'm realising the Cantrips I chose for my character are useless for the way the party works as a whole. I don't want to have to start the game again just to change out a Cantrip. If there was an option to swap on level up, or a store/location that could allow me to retrain, that would be great!

Thank you,
Indicia

No, there is no way to change cantrips in all classes.

This is basically D&D5 rule. Once you chose cantrip and you never change it.

Lack of full info about everything and in-game PHB (Players Handbook) makes this even harder to choose cantrip's. This is sad

there is a variant, UA rule that gives the option to swap one cantrip within the "swap 1 spell at level up" feature for all spellcasters, even for clerics. But it hasnt made to official source material yet. I hope the next expansion will add this feature to the game, along with cantrips for half-casters (paladin, ranger).
BTW one of my two tables enable cantrip swapping at level up, its a quality of life homebrew

The next book to be released will likely feature a swap of cantrips on level up for all caster classes - I'm 99% that it has been confirmed.
However, I do not think that will be taken into account for Baldur's Gate 3 as they seem to be sticking to the PHB and skipping the other books more or less.

Well while you can't change your chosen cantrips per se, you can learn new ones with scrolls assuming you can pay the gold it costs. IIRC it's 50 gold for cantrips, and it costs more as you increase the spell level. I believe this is limited to Wizards though.

Honestly, I am hoping that's a bug as DND 5e does not allow Wizards (or anyone else) to learn Cantrips from Scrolls - a cantrip is supposed to be a simple spell that you have mastered to a degree where it no longer consumes a spell slot to cast. Being able to learn it for 50g would indicate that you spend time writing it down in a spell book, which would make it a 1st level spell not a cantrip.
