So there are the obvious choices between Anders and Karlach. . .I have yet to resolve this quest because I was hopeful that they were both mistaken, that Anders and his party misidentified their query and that Karlach misidentified her pursuers. It seemed obvious to me initially that there was a one horned Tiefling and it was simply a matter of finding them. I have not yet exhausted all possibilities but I feel confident as this point that I am errant in my assumptions and that my hopes will be disappointed (by all means, if I am wrong, let me know and I will promptly take this down).
Honestly, it would just be a better quest if one were to find the Gnolls had been lead by a one horned Illithid touched Tiefling, especially if you discover this a few hours later, when it would be too late to conveniently reload to correct for. It would remind people the importance of role playing and not being too quick to resolve matters where there seems to be inconsistencies.
