So, I ended up fighting all the goblins (and guard ogre) at the goblin camp. Very enjoyable battle, high ground and (finally) used a lot of the throwable and area effect items. At one point during combat, Gale was koncked off his high perch by an AoE blast. Several status effects on him at the time, he went sailing off into the gorge. While pretty spectacular it wasn't exactly high my focus when fighting all the gobbos..and definitely dead.

After the battle, couldn't locate his body anywhere in the gorge. I thenI tried to go to camp and end the day, but was told in red text that "A player can't currently travel to camp". Hmmpf. Tried another tack and was able to get to camp by using fast travel from the map. Dead Gale lying in front of his tent, check. Annd I didn't notice some other rather important facts. More on that later. Okay, now to use the lich's resurrection, I thought. Went over, paid the 200 gold, went back to talk to a resurrected Gale.

Yeah, right. Not only was Gale not resurrected (refund?), there was a necrotic aura around him that had also killed Astarion (wait, what, he wasn't even in my party of four??) and, to add insult to injury, poor bloody Scratch. How the? Both grey/green and partially dissolved. Extra points about to be awarded since Shadowheart was kneeling nearby, and was also in the necrotic aura. No way to get her out, so had to watch her die, be helped, and proceed to kneel down and die again ad nauseam. OUCH.

Apparently, at or before death, Gale had a necrotic aura applied, and carried it with him when magically teleported back to camp and infected/affected people there....

Just for science, I used my last resurrection scroll on Gale (which nerfed the necrotic aura), and paid another 200 to resurrect Shadowheart. No dice for Astarion or Scratch.

Query - should buffs/debuffs (especially aoe with 1d4 damage per turn until long rest) carry over into the camp??

Back to an older save, before taking out the goblin camp. Oh, well.....
