Minor SPOILERS ahead.

Did you party wipe the first time you found the phase spider matriarch or the first goblin boss (and mini army)? I bet you did. In P&P D&D your friendly DM may get you out of such a blunder and avoid permadeath.

Is save scumming the friendly DM in BG3? I've seen a lot of complaints about die rolls, the rigid (albeit incomplete) implementation of 5e rules, and dialog checks where failure just leads to combat.

I wonder if this is all as intended, that since saving/loading has to be part of gameplay, that we're supposed to save/load before or during battle to emulate a friendly DM? Slow load times are the punishment.

I certainly can't stop myself from reloading if I miss a check I desperately want or my party gets wiped. They could make a "friendly DM mode" which would allow for rerolls and stuff like that. They most definitely will add something like Honor mode which they should probably call. "unfriendly DM mode"

This is why I've never understood the stigma against save scumming.

It's a single-player game; play how you like. It's not possible to cheat in a single-player game.

Right, it's not cheating if it's on the game and no one else is involved.

I do try not to save scum for die rolls though, for a more authentic RP experience (live with it).

even if you loose the ability to crit and have disadvantage on all perception checks with your rogue char?

The thing with that is I let the hag take my eye and would have been fine with the debuff, if the rest of the game and her story arc were already developed.

I saw it as an opportunity to make a deal to make a powerful ally, but if nothing else ever happens from that then it would be incredibly lame story writing.

For the purpose of the EA I reloaded to undo my choice, and also a lot of the side areas in Act 1 are still too hard with the level 4 cap anyway.

I really hope that eventually siding with the hag will be a worthwhile evil gambit, like once she has access to your eye she can not only see everything you do but intervene for better or worse.

As for Myranta or whatever her name is, she willingly made such a deal as well, but lacked the insight to understand it fully.
