So, during some dialogue where my character got to talk about his past, I made him tell other characters that he grew up in the wilds and he has never been in Baldur's Gate himself, I mean, not only it makes sense because he is a Ranger, but it's the background I picked to roleplay as. I even picked the Folk Hero background, which I used to pick in 5e to roleplay as some sort of a small town/village hero, a kind of Robin Hood, someone who grew up near to or in the wilds and used to help the defenseless people nearby, which would make sense with my choice of class and everything else. The thing is, I don't know if that's a bug, my character still got the Baldurian tag and is treated as if he was from Baldur's Gate, and he definetly isn't.
I'm sure that the devs should fix that.
Also, having some passive social/roleplay abilities that come with Backgrounds should be introduced in the game. And with that I mean stuff like we get in the tabletop rpg, for example in d&d 5e, the Folk Hero may get free help from commoners if that doesn't put them in immediate danger, because they heard of him/her and will want to help someone who is known for helping them.

Anyway, great game so far, keep up the good work, Larian smile

From the multiplayer tab, there's two options, one for adventure and map - I'm guessing there might be more options. I'm assuming there might be an alternative starting position (ie. Maybe not from Baldur's Gate) down the line or they're setting themselves in advance for additional future content - I wouldn't count fully on it. It is called Baldur's Gate and not Waterdeep, Neverwinter etc. . There should definitely be dialogue options for backgrounds similar to race, class and deity - though it would be additional voice work. At least Gith PCs don't get the Baldurian dialogue options

I believe every player character is considered a Baldurian and they get automatic dialogue queues and checks for history, unless they are a Lolth-sworn Drow or a Githyanki. For those, you get racial options and non-Baldurian options.

It's part of the way for Larian to give a similar degree of depth to the created characters, like the origin characters/companions. Addressing a common complaint from DOS2 where the PC felt like they were only along for the ride.

That's still an issue. Custom characters have no history so far. Like they appeared out of nowhere on the ship. What were they doing there? Pillars 1 solved that issue easily by having a mandatory NPC ask about your past as to what you were doing before the adventure. Like why you were going to the city. Gave some depth. But here, not only does your "background" mean nothing but your custom character has zero history. It's still...bland.

Some races do get a bit more dialogue towards the race, but as a specific person you get nothing about what you were doing in baldurs gate or wherever you were abducted from.

The biggest issue to me right now is that I'm sure my character said that he was NOT from Baldur's Gate, I'm certain of it, I picked a dialogue choice about not being from Baldur's Gate and growing up in the wilds or something like that, but still my character is tagged as a Baldurian. It would also be nice to get different dialogue options and maybe even a quest depending on your background.
Edit¹: I'm playing as a ranger half-elf.
