Using the spell Resistance I dropped a DC 18 Wisdom check for the book Necromancy of Thay down to a DC 14, I rolled a 15 and it said I failed

This seems like a core mechanic that needs to be working before the game get's it's full release.

This happened to me with the spell guidance, which give an extra d4 to skill checks. What happened was the spell was active when the dice screen came up but wore off before I rolled, making it look like I passed the check when it was failed. Could that have been the same thing that happened in your instance?

No, I was save scumming and spaced through the dialog much quicker than necessary to have it applied and space started the roll, it was the space of a quick press of the space button and the next quick press of the space button between when the screen came up and a roll was initiated, it appears to change the displayed DC but not change the actual DC needed at all.
