I'm going to point to Pillars of Eternity where all the saved files in the load menu are organized by which character you want to load a game for.

It's called Profiles, and it's already in the game. Larian could make that clearer and more obvious for players to understand, but the feature is already there. You can even move your existing saved games to other profiles.

Baldur's Gate 3 > Player Profiles > [ProfileName] > Savegames > Story > [Save Game Name (Folder)]

I just tested copying the [Save Game Name (Folder)] folder from one profile to another, and it loaded up just fine.

What stabby said. I wish you could move settings and keybindings over profiles though. Especially when you're making a lot of chars for testing but that's a nitpick.

Yes, it's there but the implementation is goofy and non-intuitive. If you don't use a profile then autosaves from the more recent game will overwrite the previous game. If you create a new character it should automatically create a profile for that character.

You mean, the config.lsf, modsettings.lsx, profile.lsb, and UILayout.lsx files in the the Baldur's Gate 3 > Player Profiles > [ProfileName] directory? I didn't try copying those over, but copying them will probably work.

I find this absolutely essential in any RPG where replayability is part of the design.

I started my second playthrough and didn't know about the profile things. 100% agree it should be automatic. My saves are very messy now lol

Profiles seem to be ideal for different users, saves separated by character would be extra organization.

I for one agree with OP.
