There is no other character I would rather play as than someone similar to Lord Soth of Draggard Keep - a "death knight" so to speak... well... to place it honestly, the quintessential death knight. Please incorporate a way to place, within the Paladin tree a way to "fall out of favor" with your god/goddess (much like Lord Soth) and become a twisted manifestation of what you once were - a cold, callous undead death knight who commands the undead....

Soth resides in Dragonlance. This is Forgotten Realms. As of something like Soth. There is Oath of Conquest in Xanathar's guide. (unfortunately not more anti-paladin option, but... that's a 5e for you. 6 years, and barely 5% of what WotC used to publish back in a days...)

Dragonlance at start, yes, but didn't Soth have a storyline where he got sucked into Ravenloft- which is part of the forgotten realms by way of the Ethereal Plane ?

So in 5e there exists the "Oathbreaker" paladin subclass precisely for paladins who have fallen out of favor, much like the blackguard class of prior editions. The Oathbreaker subclass specifically gives powers over fiends and the undead. In the goblin fortress there is a book that talks about Oathbreakers so at the very least the game acknowledges that they exist, but whether or not they will be playable is up in the air.
If you just want to be a "dark paladin" I'd suggest rolling up Vengeance Paladin when the paladin class launches- that's almost guaranteed to make it into the game. I think/hope that an Oathbreaker subclass may be modded into the game if it doesn't make it in, but at the very least the game acknowledges that they exist.

Both was able to escape. Soth returned to Dragonlance, Vecna returned to Greyhawk (where he also became a deity)

However, given that lord soth briefly lived within the ravenloft - doesn't that bring about the rational conclusion that the character type (anti-paladin - lawful evil) that Lord Soth portrayed allows for similar characters to be brought in? There is the oathbreaker, but i've not read much into the oathbreaker lore - are they considered undead themselves?
