Well done https://www.thegamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-one-million-copies-sold/Quote: Currently, only Act 1 is available. Some players have reported speeding through the content in about 25 hours while others who are taking their time and leaving no stone unturned have invested 50+ hours without ever finishing the available story content. This game is going to be HUGE if thats how long just this part of the game can take. Also 1 mil is on Steam™ only. I wonder how may copies are sold on GOG/Stadia

In between 1-2M according to Steamspy estimations (where they have their numbers from). May not be entirelly accurate, of course, but they've already posted that the sales had been "insane".
This is the biggest more "traditional" CRPG project with the biggest team behind it in ages, perhaps ever. The best that could happen is that it sends a strong signal that there is a significant market worth investing into here next to the more action oriented and light on mechanics games such as Witcher, Elder Scrolls, Fallout et all.
That said, Larian are pretty "special" in here, as DOS2 in particular had far outsold any other isometric CRPG on the market. In parts the reason may be their less traditional approach to doing things; environmental interactions, full-3D and Co-Op included. WOTC probably too figured that Larian+Baldur's Gate may equal a bit of cash.

Not bad, considering OS2 hit 1 million copies sold a month after final realse... now let's hope they'll do right by all these new customers, the name "Baldur's Gate" pulled in.

I don't know where you got the numbers from (not saying they aren't true), but if true, I am impressed. It's just EA...
Edit. Didn't see the link above.

Think of how great it is that they got this huge cash infusion with such a long time left of development! They can really improve the game a lot, the sky should pretty much be the limit at this point.

This may become the best selling CRPG ever, given that the originals shipped somewhat above 2 millions, it almost inevitably will. However, it's probably also the most expensive CRPG ever, as Larian has working hundreds on it. In a way, it's the culmination of what's started back in 2012/2013ish with the first wave of Kickstarters. Had it been not for them (and DOS), this project may have never seen the light of day.
As mentioned above, really curious how this may affect the market. Obsidian's Deadfire was a commercial disappointment for them; one of the last and bigger CRPGS. However, with games such as this being successful, party-based more tactical combat experiences may still be here to stay a while. I wonder if even bigger publishers may start eyeing it all again.
Plus, Wizards Of The Coast may finally get their act together and allow more D&D games to exist again, like in the old days.

Will depend on how well Larian's take in their IP will actually do in the end... Beamdog didn't make the cut back then, or they'll be doing BG3 right now... thank the gods they don't.

If you want to torture yourself...one thing's for sure, though, Larian is already more faithful to the original games then this... thing... was.

I didn't play it, but all the test and review I read were horrible.

I am skeptical it can reach the more than 10 million in sales for DA:I. As for more D&D games, that depends. If it is more D&D games across a range of different types of games, that would awesome. If it is more D&D games exactly like BG3, then no thanks.

Fwiw Swen has to be the biggest hams in the biz right now, hasn't met a camera he doesn't like and not a knock at all. He's one of the few rock stars that exists in gaming as most work behind the scenes or not given the ability to standout.

I don't know what their long goal aspirations are, but you can see them maturing into what a Bioware was. There is no doubt they could sell more if they moved into a Dragon Age type POV, it is just more approachable to a larger audience. But I have no idea if they even want to go there, but looking at BG3's advancements over DOS2... they seem to be headed that way.

And you are ignoring that BG3 is on EA, din't released yet, and that this games are available on consoles. Only on steamcharts, they put BG3 on 1m to 2m users. edit : on steamcharts, DA:I which was recently released to steam is on 20,000 .. 50,000, a tiny fraction of other EA franchises, like BF1 with 10x more users.

Linear, boring story, unispired quests and encounters, somehow buggier then the main game, and the writing... oh my, the writing. *shudder*

I consider neither of those "traditional" CRPGs. Traditional CRPGs got their revival only with Kickstarter back in 2012ish. https://youtu.be/4P4xJ34dmqQ?t=233
