Is there a way to increase the amount you get when you sell items? If you look at the price it says 100 gold, but when you go to sell it at times I'm lucky to get 1/4 the amount.

This is based off of your charisma...the higher charisma you have the better deal you will get. However friends, charm person, nor the skill check bonus spell seem to have any effect, which I hope is a bug.

So have your highest charisma character initiate dialogue with the vendor for the best deal. 16 charisma is 45% listed price which is way off, but assuming there’s other modifiers you can get/accomplish to increase it, it maybe correct.

Or pickpocket all their money, and convince them you didn't do it (I kept seeing Target roll of 1 for this.... sooo.....)

Just steal weapons you need ezpz.

Smith be liek
- "Help a thief! That weapon you are brandishing with my initials - T.F. wtf I did not sell it."
and you are
- "[Persuasion] Nah mate, I got it in Baldur's Gate from a smith named Toyota Ferrari, just a coincidence."
- "Alrightey then, makes sense. Better be careful there are thieves here!"

if you have plenty of things to buy, you can gift your items of low value (daggers, goblins bows and all weapons you find basically) to the vendor, one at a time ; you'll see the price of items increase (for you) and decrease (for vendor's items), but I think there is a maximum.

I got from 220% of asked price to about 140% wich is far more reasonable when buying expensive stuff.

Selling price got up from 40% to around 75% too. So you can start selling 100+ gold items with a good profit.

That's if you want to stay without stealing anything of course. Either way stealing their gold is deceptively easy...

Stealing weapons and small items (potions, arrows...) is very easy too, unlike body armors wich are like DC 30. So buying all armor needed before stealing gold and other small stuff is recommended.

Specifically, it's based off of the Charisma of the currently active character. So you will get more gold if you tediously send all items to the highest-Cha character to be sold.

There are other influences beyond Charisma, so just try with different characters.

For example, my Drow has good Charisma, but clearly merchants in the grove do not like her.

OMG that's even worse. Please, Larian, make this either: a) completely based off your player character no matter what, or b) use the best in your party no matter whose inventory the item comes from.

It depends on your charisma, and your "reputation" ... wich reflect how are you acting there ...
Whenever someone see you steal, probably fight, destroy things etc ... your reputation goes down.

You can check your reputation (no, its not how its called, but i dont remember the right word) when you examine vendor.

Are you talking about Attitude? I thought that might have had something to do with it, because my rogue thief had no problem sealing anything from the vendors in the grove, and he had an Attitude of 9. My other characters only had attitudes of 1, and couldn't lift anything from them. But then I found that once I got them to level 3, it got easier even though the Attitude didn't change.

Some tips for fellow thieves:

1. If your player character doesn't have good dex and stealth, then use Astarion as your thief. Especially if you had him select the thief path.
2. If you're having a problem lifting items, then steal the coins and buy the item. Coins are easier to steal than items. And you can always steal the coins back after buying what you want.
3. But coins also have weight to them, and the more you try to steal the harder it will be to pass the slight of hand check. Especially if it's over something like 2000 gold. But don't despair! Instead pickpocket, and Split the gold in half while it's still on the shopkeeper. You will see the required roll for stealing the smaller pile of gold drop. Steal half, then the other half.

Since it's apparently a Charisma check I thought I'd see if Guidance boosted it but no dice. I offered to sell my +1 scale armour and was offered 326g with and without the Guidance buff on the selling character.

loot everything and send to camp ;/.. pick up everything, send to camp. that part of the game is broken.... there's nothing you can't buy because everything can be sent to camp and you can camp unlimited amount of times with no recourse.
