This happened with the update last night and it is happening again now as I write this.
Last night, steam showed the update to be 1,6GB. With roughly 70GB of free disk space I clicked update and it quickly downloaded 1,5GB out of the 1,6GB. Then Steam gave the error that I didn't have enough disk space. I thought that was weird and ckecked it out, and I suddenly had only a couple of hundred MB of free disk space left. I freed some space (sadly uninstalling DOS2) and clicked the update button in steam. It would say the file size was 1,6 and that it downloaded 1,5 for 3 more attempts. Suddenly it finished the installation and I could click play. What happened then was that the game would just take me directly to the crash reporter, every time. Until I uninstalled the entire game and re-installed it. Then it worked fine, with my saves and everything. It was just renaming the new saves, starting at 1.
Now there is a new update and though it is still going. it stopped at 1,8GB/1,8GB but it said time remaining 58hours. I then checked the disk space and pressed refresh as the download was happening, every 10 seconds or so and it kept shrinking and shrinking. I then paused the download and started it again and suddenly it changed from 1,8/1,8 to 12,83/12,83 and the time had gone up to 127 hours.
So just wondering if anyone else is having this issue, is it a Steam issue, or is it completely on my end with my somewhat old rig?
EDIT:
19,5GB/19,5GB now, and still going but time is down to 12 min
EDIT 2:
And now I am out of disk space, like yesterday. Still says 19,5/19,5 but it has used up over 70GB on my harddrive. I will uninstall and reinstall the entire game again as that worked last night. But if someone has any idea why this is happening I would love to hear from you
EDIT 3:
After uninstalling the game and having over 140GB of free disk space before reinstalling it, I have now downloaded 55,47GB/59,26GB but magically my disk is full, so 55,47GB = 140+GB? I'm 100% lost and confused. The download is stopped and I have no idea what to do. No other game downloaded/updated through Steam has caused any similar issue.
EDIT 4:
After a third complete uninstall and attempted reinstall. All ending with 55+GB/59,26GB.... I restarted my computer and that magically freed up 77,3GB and the missing data could be downloaded, game could be launched and I can finally continue. Absolutely no idea what is going on, but at least I will do the restart right away with the next update.
