The painter in the Zhentarim Grotto asks to be freed by paying the Zhents.

I however decided I wanted their treasury and cleared out the hideout.


However once I cleared it the painter still talked about asking his caretaker to buy his freedom despite noone alive remained in the hideout, softlocking the quest.

While not the most elegant solution to his predicament it should definitly work or atleast prompt him to freak out regarding the rest of the Zhents future retaliation.

I found the Zhent hideout to be broken for me in general, like they wanted me to talk to their boss but every time I approached her it triggered combat. So I think the Zhent area is very unfinished.

Make sure you kill the guy in above the hideout too

Edit: Thanks for reminding me of the guy upstairs seems to be working as intended.

If you clear out the zhent boss and her goons, you shouldn't have to treasure hunt for the one last guy upstairs just to get the painter to change his dialogue. This needs to be fixed, it's confusing.

Not to mention, he finishes by askng you to speak to Brem for his freedom....even if you killed Brem right in front of him.
