Obviously a good weapon is useful, and some of them seem to require impressive strength and (after sharpening) agility.

Am I well advised to spend most points on those two attributes and constitution and pretty much leave survivor and speed alone? What is a good template for a warrior? Strength very high and agility and constitution lower with other things pathetically low? How high should constitution go - higher than agility, lower or about the same?

I never found a good 1-H sword through the whole game. My hero used a plain old 1-H Raanaar Sword. Don't know if the Gemmed Sword you have made in Act 3 stays with you, because that quest was broken in my game so I never saw it.

When I finished the game my stats were (1-H Slash with Shield):

Level..31
Str....70
Agil...50
Con....35
Int....13 (never put any points into this)
Surv...36
Speed..20

For a Melee character I would not skimp too much on Survival points, they seem to really help.

I de-trained 1-H Slash at the final battle, and re-trained 2-H Slash and switched to the Demon's Cutter Axe for the win.

Hope that helps

Nope, this Sword is a quest item - goes to quest giver.

Survival helps with initiative and elemental resistances, while speed helps with hit rate, recovery time and evasion. If you neglect these, you could find yourself being hit first and more frequently, while taking longer to recover.

I am planning for moderate strength (enough for equipment requirements, plus maybe a buffer in case of disease) and a high agility. So far with constitution I have been leaving it a little low, but still high enough I am not using too many potions. Hopefully some good equipment and vitality charms will mitigate the need for too many constitution stat points. I was trying to keep speed and survival close to my character level number, but with equipment bonuses to reach, they have fallen a bit behind. My DK has trouble with recovering when fighting several strong monsters at a time, so I need to get his speed up, at least.

Intelligence is about the only stat you don't need for a warrior, scarily. Agility affects chance to hit, Speed affects hit rate, etc...

I put two points into Str per level, and one in each of three other stats, keeping them roughly even as I went up levels. My fighter thus relied on doing a lot of damage, but his other attributes were not terrible.

I started with one-handed slashing, then changed to two handed slashing later in the game, as the damage on 2H weapons is significantly higher. There are a fair number of very good 2H swords and axes around, and only one decent 1H sword - at least that I found!

The benefits of using a shield - to me - are not sufficient to justify the damage loss. Especially as my Mage was a walking potion factory! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Many contradictory opinions - not surprisingly <smile>.

This game I'm keeping strength and agililty well above the other attributes with constitution not TOO far behind. It has worked well through the end of chapter 1 (agility to be able to use sharpened weapons - it makes a big difference). Yeah the enemies get the first attack but they often don't ever get to go a second time <smile>. No need to use healing potions or heals often and I have yet to restore a prior save - haven't lost a fight yet with this bunch.
