Why does our map mark exactly where Auntie Ethel's house is, or where the Gith riders are, or where the goblin bosses are before we've even visited the region?

We may hear they're to the south, or west of some mountains, or outside the abandoned village, but that should give us larger circles, approximate areas on our map where they're supposed to be.

Exploration and discovery is entirely removed by placing exact markers on our maps. No one needs it, and it doesn't make sense!

Larger, approximate regions corresponding to the clues we've heard or found about a location, please!!

Thanks so much for a great game, Larian! =)

I agree, but I also know I've seen countless people complain about the quest log and tracking system in D:OS2 because it didn't tell you exactly where to go. I suspect this is due to those complaints. Honestly I prefer no markers at all, just give us sufficient dialogue and quest log indications and let us figure it out.

Also, the real locations shouldn't just be in the center of the larger, approximate circles! =P

What do you think?

I do! The general map indicators would be a nice compromise between Morrowind-style vague directions and Skyrim-style quest markers.

I do, but like a lot of requests about having a lot less "dumbing down" I feel like it's a lost battle, as people for the vast majority will always pick immediate convenience over tight design.

I would do completely without a minimap in most games and design them around its absence, for instance.
But there are people who would have panic attacks without a buttload of handholding.

I remember reading tons of complains from people who though DOS 1 was super obscure and hardcore, for instance.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

Yeah, it just seems to make so little sense to have specific locations already marked. We know exactly where the Gith riders are, really? And thw dialogue worsens it, because the dialogue implies we've just happened to stumble upon them.

Larger, approximate regions on the map informed by what we're told or what we discover would be so much more fun! Im sure everyone could handle that. We dont need to be told --exactly-- where to walk all the time - arent we supposed to explore? Huh?

Also, it wouldnt be too hard to implement - most golden squares on the map would just need to be turned into a lightly golden shaded circle, off-center randomly. It'd be work, but not too much, and it'd make waay more of a difference than the work put in.

We could even have a toggle for: exact locations or approximate locations. Or no location marks on the map for the real power rangers.
