Greetings,

If you have bought the game on GOG and are allergic to Galaxy client (like I am), then please note that you will have to re-download the whole game on a regular basis.

Offline patches will not be created for all builds, and therefore you will have to download 65GB quite often. Whilst I love Baldurs Gate series, Larian and the work they are doing, this is too much and a "game breaking bug" for me as i'm on a 35 Mbit line with no abiltiy to improve it where I live - not downloading 65 GB weekly.

I'm off early access - see you all after release.

Cheers!

Why buy on GOG if you don't like to use Galaxy Client?

The first patch #1, which they withdrew because of the saved games problem, couldn't be installed with Galaxy because there was only 80 GB left on the disk (which should have been more than enough).
Then the fact they withdrew it broke the installation somehow, so in any case it's back to reinstalling everything, even with Galaxy wink

I think GOG is great, but maybe not so much for updates. For one, the patch notes are never available for new patches, we have to hunt them down on Steam laugh

I noticed the missing standalone patch as well. Is this because of GOG or is Larian not providing the standalone patch? Does anyone have any info about the GOG patch rollout policy going forward for BG3 on GOG?

Normally they provide downloadable files on the site which allows you to avoid telemetry and such. Thing I like about GOG is that you can download the files and take them to a computer that doesn't connect with the internet.

I buy on GOG for the sole reason of getting standalone installers and knowing exactly where the game files reside on my computer. I also control what patches are installed and when. Not in a "STEAM" library/folder and not in a "GALAXY" library/folder. In fact, I don't understand why would you buy a game on GOG if you use Galaxy - becomes same as Steam functionally unless you worry about DRM.

The reply from GOG customer service was that they will not always provide standalone patches - depends on complexity and size. Whilst this is ok for a finished game which is updated infrequently, there is no way I can endure this for early access title that's updated 3 times a week.

I had the same issue with GOG over Kingdom Come Deliverance, where every now and then they would abandon standalone patches and just replace the whole installation set. If you played that game, you know how large the install files are. I just don't see why I should re-download 40, 50, 60 GB on a regular basis - sounds like sloppy work that is only tolerated because most players are on 100 MBit+ connections and don't care. I no longer have one where I live and hence get really irritated by this.

The patch notes are there for BG 3 - but not the actual patch... figure that one smile

Thanks for the clarification. I am sorry to hear that your internet connection won't allow you to download the entire game on a regular basis. I chose GOG because of FCK DRM and the fact that I can download offline installer files without the need for a launcher/client software. That being said, you could use GOG Galaxy just to let it update BG3 (you won't have to start it to actually play the game) and it will only download the files needed to update the game, not the entire installation. I understand that this is still not optimal based on your preference but maybe it would be an acceptable compromise for your during early access? I still hope that Larian will release as many offline patches as possible, though.
