I just noticed Geoff has a long dagger of angels and a razor sharp dagger of angels in his inventory. These are ridiculously expensive, over 20k gold. They are also not very special. Are they just random or do they serve a purpose in some quest?

No purpose; you can find similar items as well. Sometimes the game just creates items (rings, amulets, etc.) with a large value, but no special stats, often with a unique suffix (such as 'of angles').

An interesting find near the end of the game, worth 50k gold.
