ok so i just finished EA and after some frustrating hours of fighting my way through many "bugs" and mostly goblins. id say these are the mains pros and cons.
cons
1/ the games story is good but annoying. i came across 4 ways to get rid of the tadpole and none of them worked, just makes me feel like i did hours of work for nothing.
2/ loot doesn't feel rewarding
3/ nothing to spend your gold on
4/ its cool to get a feeling of rolling the dice like in actual D&D but nat 20's dont feel special i get the same dialog or "reward" as i would for simply getting a pass on the roll whether it be lying to someone, searching for traps or going bartering. its a nice feeling to have there don't get me wrong but it just feel very artificial is all. id love to see nat 20's do something special, those are what makes the most memories.
5/ going back to the dice nat 1's also have the same feeling, every time i got one i was like "for gods sake" because i failed but back when i rolled a nat 1 in paper id be like "oh fuck, something bads about to happen" i think you get "bane" if you get one in combat? which doesn't feel bad considering you have so many ways to gain advantage. maybe have a good old fashioned chart that in the background is rolled from. Playing a wizard and you nat 1 on an frost bolt? well now the spell malfunctions and a cloud of ice forms around you and you begin to shiver immensely? just little stuff like that.
6/ i think my biggest pet hate with this game though is that enemies don't play by the same rules you do. they have more movespeed, spellslots, range, sight, one shotting with high tier spells their not meant to have at that level. for the sake of "difficulty" change the mobs, add more of them or something but dont change the core mechanics of the game.
7/ the hit chance? never tell me the odds, feels kinda strange to see it, also feels super bad when you miss a 80% chance or something. which can happen in normal D&D but id rather let the dice tell me after rather than before if im going to hit.
8/ shove needs to be removed. its broken and stupid, if you really want it in it should be an action at least.
9/ not really sure but i couldn't figure out a way to "hold my action" or get a surprise round in on the enemy. or if i wanted to have all my companions fire an action or attack off onto one or multiple targets simultaneously.
Pros
1/ the graphics are amazing, specially in the underdark (when theyre working correctly)
2/ the story is good and intriguing, however it kinda feels like youre following in the footsteps of Divinity 2 gotta get rid of the collar, where are in BG3 you gotta get rid of the tadpole.
3/ i like what you've done with adding power to items through "enchants and cantrips" however, it would be nice to have more unique abilities strictly to those items instead to make them actually feel "magical" such as maybe a mace that can turn into a flail for extra range at the expense of hit rating. or maybe a bow that can fire 2 arrows at the same time but the damage is halved for each enemy hit. i would also love to see more roleplay items in there for multiplayer purposes. maybe a magic paintbrush that makes things you paint real for a limited time.
4/ the difficulty is reasonable
5/ being able to rest pretty much whenever you need too without damaging the story is a good needed thing, specially since you can have 4-5 fights before you want the day too end.
6/ it seems pretty hard to romance anyone.
7/ i enjoy talking to my companions at camp even if they're not apart of my main group.
