[Translation] [German] Corrections [Spoilers]

Hello Larian!

I just thought i could gather any translation hiccups i encounter while playing the EA content. Maybe these can be used to correct some unprecise translations that made it into the game. I will keep the list updated as i proceed playing. When i feel that i am finished i will send this link via the feedback tool in the launcher to you guys, Larian, so it gets seen.

1. Abilities and Spells

Ok, a messy picture, so here is where it's at.

A.) A lot of abilities and spells are missing the word "schaden" / "-Schaden" (translated that would be "damage") behind their damage type. Having it without it feels very insider-ish (like experienced people would talk after years of playing Dungoens & Dragons). Grammaticaly it doesn't mean anything though, neither in English nor in German. Here is a list of abilities and spells that should be fixed in that regard:
- Arme von Hadar
- Brennende Hände
- Dissonantes Flüstern
- Schauriger Strahl
- Gift versprühen
- Heilige Flamme
- Schockgriff
- Verwünschen
- Hexenpfeil
- Hinterhältiger Angriff (Fernkampf)
- Hinterhältiger Angriff (Nahkampf)
- Kalte Hand
- Wunden verursachen
- Lenkendes Geschoss
- Magisches Geschoss
- Säurespritzer
- Strahl der Übelkeit

B.) The wizard cantrip "Feuerpfeil" (in it's current translation) says, that it will leave a flammable surface - since it reads "...und eine brennbare (flammable) Oberfläche erzeugt" - when in fact it leaves an already burning surface. The correct wording should be "...und eine brennende (burning) Oberfläche erzeugt."

C.) The spell "Thunderwave" was not translated to German. I guess in German that one would be called "Donnerwelle". Also its damage type appears two times in its ability text.

D.) "Freunde" boasts both a comma and an "und". While you can do this in German it really isn't necessary. Right now the spell could falsely be read as having two distinct effects because of the "und" (hexing a target and gaining advantage with Charisma rolls) when the "hex" effect is what gives the advantage. I would rephrase it like this: "Verzaubere eine Kreatur, die nicht feindlich gesinnt ist. Du bist bei Charismawürfen gegen diese Kreatur im Vorteil." This way it is way clearer that the enchantment effect is what grants the advantage.

D.) Some spells have their inflicted damage shown in their short reference banner, but not their inflicted conditions. Spells for which this is the case are as follows:
- Arme von Hadar (In it's current form it does not seem to inflict a condition, but not being able to regenerate hit points should be a condition i can check during combat and out of combat.)
- Dissonantes Flüstern does not list "Verängstigt" as a condition.
- Gift versprühen does not list "Vergiftet" as a condition.
- Shockgriff does not list "Shocked" as a condition (which i made up for the same reason i used for "Arme von Hadar". Loosing your reaction should be traceable as a condition)
- Kalte Hand says that it inflicts itself. That is very unclear. Since it deals reliably 1d8 of necrotic damage it should show that and also inflict a condition that says that you can't gain any hitpoints while it lasts.)
- Kältestrahl very much like Kalte Hand inflicts itself onto the target. Instead it should be a condition called "Kälte" (cold).

E.) "Brennende Hände", "Verwünschen" and "Säurespritzer" don't have a short reference banner for the spell's effects.

F.) In "Hexenpfeil"'s short reference banner "Witch Bolt" wasn't translated to "Hexenpfeil".

G.) In "Segnen"'s short reference banner it says "Verursacht Segnen" when i think it should say "Segen" (Blessing) / "Gesegnet" (Blessed) as it fits better as a name for a condition. "Bless" (segnen) is an action and not a condition. I gravitate towards "blessed" more than towards "blessing" personaly.

H.) In "Säurespritzer"'s range definition a blank space is missing between "2m" and "Explosionsradius".

I.) Some spells use "bewirkt" ("cause", more on the side of "accomplish") to say that they inflict a certain amount of damage. Other spells use "verursacht" (also "cause", but closer to "inflict") instead of "bewirkt". This should be unified to the latter: "verursacht" (singular) / "verursachen" (plural).

Tieflings get a passive ability called "Höllische Resistenz" (Hellish Rebuke). In German it states that you are protected from "Flamme" (Flame) and "Abyssisch" (Abyssal). Without knowing what those two things refer to, this passive is very confusing. After some research i conclude that "Flamme" refers to the monster sub-type Fire (which translated to German would better be called "Feuer" (fire) since it fits the sub-type from the Monster Manual). As an example the Monster type Elemental could bring up a Fire-Elemental ("Feuer"elementarwesen not "Flammen"elementarwesen). "Abyssisch" (Abyssal) is a sub-sub-type of the monster sub-type Demons. The passive ability should really state that, because unexperienced players won't understand what this ability does otherwise. Also: "...oder dergleichen" (or suchlike (?)) is verly lax language and holds no information for the player. This addendum should be cut without substitution unless it gets defined better.

In the character creator the facial hair section and all options have not been translated to German. Since "Gesichtsbehaarung" (facial hair) isn't a pretty word and you can only choose different types of beards anyway, i would go with "Bärte" (beards) as this section's name instead and make all the options "Kein Bart" (No beard) and "Bart 1" to "Bart X".

The current "Mal wieder." refers to something that happened before. In this context one could think he compliments the kid since Wyll says "Nicht schlecht." aka "Not bad" right before. But the kid is struggling.
The right context seems to be, that Wyll asks the kid to go again, attack him again. So the right german term for this would simply be "Nochmal" as in "Go again." / "Do / Try it again.".

Here we have a weird choice of word. Since fighting is a physical thing, force should rather be translated with "Kraft" instead of "Macht". Wyll is talking to a kid. The kids uses his physical force to train his skills. "Might" and "Macht" respectively refer to something on a grander scale than that, like political "Might" for example (politische Macht).

I play the english version, but am german. Both are errors and you also describe the right wording as a solution. What I would recommend is that you use the Feedback feature in the launcher or the bug reporter, as I fear those smaller things will get lost in the forums (nothing to 'discuss' here, you are simply right). They also probably can create a bugfix ticket from your feedback.
