When I first used a torch in this game I was struck by how awesome the atmosphere in a dungeon became. Sadly very few classes actually need torches because in DnD5e everyone can see in the dark :P

But there was two things that broke the atmosphere:

1. the character not holding the torch over their head, instead carrying it as if he's just walking around with a weapon.
2. You can't hold it in your off hand, or automatically drop it to the ground when combat starts. This is a common way to use torcehs in 5e, you come to an encounger, drop the torch to the ground and draw your weapon.
Alternatively you dual wield the torch in your off hand. This at least still allows for some light to be gained during combat.

I think the biggest issue with torches right now is that during conversations they are on your back but still on which is super stupid

Larian's Biggest Oversight, what to do about it, and My personal review of BG3 EA
"74.85% of you stood with the Tieflings, and 25.15% of you sided with Minthara. Good outweighs evil, it seems."

Races without darkvision do need them in dark enviroments. Without it they are constantly attacking with disadvantage. I often use the light spell on my cleric PC to ensure that they can attack the characters around him.

Dident notice torches beeing stashed though. Beeing able to use them offhand should defenitly be an option.

Torches are too powerful as weapons (2d4) and too complicated to light. I mean you can light candles and torches on the wall with a single click, but not your own.

Holding a torch offhand for non-darkvision characters to get rid of disadvantage in combat sounds about right. Or throwing them on the ground to have a small light radius while using a shield.
