Hi guys smile

Was originally only going to post this using their link in the Steam launcher but hey, might as well post it here, in case it can spark any interesting discussion.
Haven't kept up much with the forums or Steam or Reddit since EA so hopefully, this isn't too much redundant smile

This is my feedback after about 25h in the early access of BG3. As i said in the title, nothing about balance yet, that's the sort of stuff that can easily be tweaked later.
Did both ‘good’ and ‘evil’ runs though neither of them were particularly completionists.
In no particular order of importance:

  • A lot of the in game cinematic feel cheap and « low impact ». It’s particularly flagrant at the end of the prologue where all sorts of crazy things happen with the nautiloid but there’s barely any music or sound design. Other examples include first encounter with Astarion. I understand it’s EA so it could well be Work-in-Progress smile
  • As a huge BG2 player, I’m just way too used to have the highlight shortcut on TAB. Seems like a silly request but at first I had a hard time remapping all buttons because they’re used for multiples things. Not sure there’s anything that can be done about it but hey, thought I would mention it.
  • A pretty important one IMO. It feels REALLY weird that the companions barely interact when you talk. A very important conversion is happening and you can see them standing there in the background like trees, not commenting or anything.
  • Some of the story bits felt unclear. Could be just bugs though.
The tieflings / druids situation for one. It didn’t really make sense for how long they had been there with the druids. A few days? The druid reaction of kicking them would make sense but they seem pretty well settled. A lot longer? Then the druids reaction felt disproportional.
Wyll: he has some pretty weird comments like he gets made at me for killing the goblins while he was in my party? Dude, that’s what you asked me to do!
Halsin: if you kill the 3 gob leaders without going to the prison (missed it!), he is back at the grove but talks like you’ve freed him, felt out of place.
Gythyanki patrol: super confusing one. Went there with Lae'zel thinking they could help me (that’s what she had said all along), told them the truth but they just turned on me with no reason.
  • Another important one. WHY SO MANY JUNK ITEMS?
There’s nothing more infuriating than opening 100 containers, realizing that only 10 of them have loots and this loot is plates and forks and other useless stuff and you just lost another 5min selling this shit.
I realize there’s going to be a crafting system but please please please don’t over do it. In fact, keep it as light as possible.
As far as containers, I know you can interact with them and they have some use in the gameplay but maybe they could be interacted with but not opened?
  • The party movement needs some serious work. There’s no party formation. If I want to position my guys before a fight, I have to manually unchain them, then manually position them then manually chain them again at the end… So many clicks! While a very simple drag the mouse as if it was an RTS (a la BG2 in fact) is just so much simpler.
Camera too, I can zoom out but it’s a bit weird not being able to change the angle.
Also, when solo and I jump, the rest of the party (linked ones probably) should follow. Extremely cumbersome to manually jump all 4 characters.
  • Sometimes, I pass a perception check but I can barely see a visual cue as to what I’ve discovered, if I can find something at all. Would be nice to make it more visible.
  • Rest obviously requires a balance pass as is but I would assume you’re well aware of it wink
But more from an atmosphere point of view, could be really nice to have different camps whether you’re in the wild, inside, in the underdark, etc.
  • On the evil path, the druid raid takes waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too long. Probably too many enemies. And I don’t know if it’s the configuration of the place or what but the computations for next moves always took a lot of time.
Both of those added up to a very tiring and unfun fight.
There’s also a gamebreaking bug where after killing everyone, Minthara would not speak to me and I could not progress the quest.
  • Inventory management also needs a serious rework. Appart from the ‘too much stuff’ mentioned earlier, I also found really hard to navigate, when you have an item in the backpack that could potentially go to several people and you’re trying to decide whether to sell it or not.
It goes: open all bags, see what’s there, open inventory compare for each character, decide it’s not worth it, open all bags, send the item to sell. Rinse and repeat for all gear. Cumbersome. It lacks a more global vision.

And my final thought. I know it has been debated to death prior, I know it’s a different ruleset than DOS2 (and a much better one, I’ll easily give you that!), I know it’s DnD lore and I know it will probably still be a good game in the end.
But!
But it doesn’t *FEEL* (big big emphasis here) like a Baldur’s Gate game. It doesn’t *PLAY* like a Baldur’s Gate game. And ultimately, it’s a bit disappointing.

Hope it helps somewhat and despite the apparent negativity, keep up the good work! smile
