Okay so I used the turn by turn mode to steal a merchant. One of the roll failed and his attitude toward my char decreased but nothing else happened until I left the turn by turn mode. I could still end my turn and continue as if nothing happened.
If I end turn by turn mode and stay with the thief near the merchant the fight start, if I TP to camp and come back with another char here's what happened:
