When the game is finally complete and released, please include an option to skip the mindflayer ship.

Not sure about that. It is a tutorial, certainly, and having to replay it over and over might get tedious, but it does set up several situations later in the game. Without the ship section, some of the later encounters or dialogues would not make sense. That's fine if you have already played out the game several times already, but it might jar for new players who decide that they 'don't need no tutorial 'cos they're boss.... dude'.

I suppose those choosing to skip the tutorial when you are new to a game might be said to deserving their fate.

It will probably be a modded option in any case.

Maybe they could include a 'skip the tutorial' button, but it comes with a warning that you will miss quite an important chunk of story

That sounds like pure mod material ...
Sure sooner or later there will be people who will ask for skipping act 1 since they did it soooo many times in EA. :-/

Commandeering this thread to complain about the Mind Flayer ship not making sense;

Allegedy the tutorial section was added so late in development of Act 1 that entire sections of the story were not adjusted for it. Unfortunately the writers did not communicate that the player now knows exactly what the parasite is and by extension what True Souls really are, Lae'Zel even has a monologue about it after you meet TS Eodwin. The Absolute's forces are all totally ignorant of this fact. Gut has no idea of the tadpole and tries to imprison you if you ask her to take it out because she believes you will experience ceremorphosis at any moment, unlike her "a real True Soul". Minthara AFAIK simply does not acknowledge the whole tadpole situation and uses you as an unimportant minion instead.

All of this serves to ruin the evil path. You have critical information right from the opening cinematic that none of the evil people seem to be aware of and it makes siding with them an excercise in suspending your disbelief or irrational indulgence in psychopathy. It sucks.
