Passives like darkvision enabling the player to themselves see better in the dark makes sense from a first person perspective, but IMO the glow looks weird from a 3rd person perspective. It's an unnatural light that always throws off the atmosphere of dungeons and the like.

Considering that right now you have to search surroundings with your own player eyes, this will make darkvision useless for exploration. Some other changes would be required to allow you to see objects in the dark. May be highlight them, but this doesn't feel right.

Disagree, this is something Larian implemented that I really like.

EDIT: Although, can't complain about others wanting a settings option.

Agreed ... its simple, elegant, and working solution ...
If you dont like it, there is allways option to switch to some human companion when exploring dark places. :-/

Wow.

So how in YOUR mind does 3rd person perspective "make sense"? I think, you didn't think this through at all lol

i get that it leeches the colours from the view making things look less vibrant and interesting from an artistic view. however darkvision has always had the limitation of being shades of grey with no colours.

so maybe it's throwing the atmosphere off because it's trying to subdue the colours you can see?

an alternative is when light is limited the whole view could go black and white, making it clearer darkvision has kicked in and the trade off between being able to see without lighting your character up vs burning a torch (or a spell) to see normally while reducing your chances to hide

anyone recall the first aliens vs predator PC game where the predator could cycle vision modes? something like that

personally i'm happy as things are, but i figure it's worth thinking of some alternatives

I really like the darkvision as it is personally. The difference between none, 12m, 18 and 24 is really noticeable and interesting to play around with.

Could add a toggle I suppose. I don't have any issues with the way it is. It could be a lot worse, they could have made it like Skyrim Night Eye.

Perhaps only for full darkness, as I understand it in dim light you still see colours. Most areas have some sort of ambient light. Of course if we had full darkness then people playing a race without darkvision would really hate life.

To be honest they should have. Not exactly like Skyrim, but RAW you dont see colors in darkness, and for most races darkvision is in shades of grey (I remember there being one race that has it in shades of red, just dont rememder wich one).
But no mater how much I want Larian to stick with RAW for combat, in this case it doesn't seem as necessary.
