I talked with the two idiots following the now dead fellow with the tadpole in his eye. This is the second time I talked with them as the first time, I died
from looting a boobytrapped chest in a nearby cave.
The first time, after being asked what my orders were, my only option was to continue the cinematic, which immediately led to combat. The second time, I got actual dialogue options. They said they were looking for survivors of the nautiloid crash. I, adhering to the cayfabe of my character, am completely upfront and confirm that I am who they seek, which aggros them. I will now go through a play-by-play of combat, which ends where shit gets fucky:

Round 1:

Player: Casts burning hands. 1HKOs the man and deals 9 damage to the woman.

Woman: Uses a scroll to cast Bless and ends turn.

Gale: Casts Ray of Frost. Misses and Woman succeeds at her saving throw.

Lae'zel: Moves forward to engage Woman and makes a melee attack. The camera gets in close and a golden d20 appears to show that a nat 20 was rolled. Woman bashes Lae'zel in the face, dealing somewhere in the ballpark of 18 damage (she may have been minorly wounded before. I can't remember.) I try to actually attack after this, thinking I just provoked an opportunity attack somehow, but instead get the message "Not enough resources: Action." There isn't even a reason I'd provoke an opportunity attack anyways, as I had just entered melee range.

I completely stopped at this point and ran here to tell the tale. Lae'zel runs in, makes an attack, and instead of attacking as expected, I received a crit mace to Lae'zel's head. Has anyone else experienced this?

The AOO is a bit funky and I hope that it is a bug. If you move in and attack with the same mouse click it can set off an AOO. Move in next to the enemy and then after moving in click on them to attack. Also look for a red arrow under the enemy as you are moving your mouse around them, that usually indicates where the enemy is likely to set off an AOO.

I think it's sometimes, the character need to attack from another angle, like when you want to jump out of actual radius ; you'll see the "ghost" showing final position of your char before being able to trigger the real action (in your case, attacking from melee).

So I presume you didnt pay attention to this (sometimes it's unexpected and/or difficult to see because various obstructions of camera), and Lae'zel triggered an AoO with the slight move she had to do prior her attack ?

If not, yes AoO is currently a bit unreliable, and may lead to cancelling a character's action for some reason... smirk
