Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to just put something on top of something without throwing it or pushing it? Dropping it just does it randomly.... would like to know if I'm just missing something simple to put stuff on top of vents, etc.

Select and HOLD the mouse button on a movable object like a crate, move it where you want it, and release the mouse button. Works for me when covering gas vents. You might need to do that a few times to move it where you want it. Stronger characters in your party will move it further.

left mouse click grab, place where you want, white outline if ok, red if not, let go
