I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am having a really hard time with this game. To start, my team is currently my warlock, Shadowheart (cleric) and Astarion (rogue), all level 3. I am at the "raid the grove" part of the story after siding with Minthara during the goblin attack.

Honestly I feel so weak an overwhelmed every combat since the beginning of the game, I feel like I can't do anything I want. I don't understand how this is supposed to work. I sided with Minthara, even if I did not want to, because it's the only way I felt I could progress, trying to kill the child killer Druids felt impossible, attacking or saying anything wrong in the Gobllin camp was a death sentence, attacking the goblin during the assault was futile. I tried and tried, no way. I did try obvious tricks (high ground, oil barels, cc, etc.) to the best of my ability's but at some point it always ends up at 20+ vs 3 and I can't keep up I just don't have the firepower to kill that many enemies, my team hits like a wet noodles.

Now I am struggling again at the Raid the Grove part where I need to finish off Kagah and the druids. Of course Minthara is nowhere to be found for help, so I am facing an army with 3 character and a couple of weakling goblin that die in 1 shot. My best pull I was able to focus Kagah down and take a couple of the druids with her with some very lucky rolls, but I was still far off from winning.

Not to sure what to do now. Did I miss needed companion? is my party trash? should I have level more before getting to that point? This game is really not friendly.

So specifically for the grove battle part you are in, you should kite the druids into the packs of goblins which are scattered along the way when you move up from the grove proper. Use some bombs and grease bottles to slow their progress while the goblins come into your help.

I did the battle yesterday with two characters and it went smoothly.

But as you seem to struggle, you should have lae'zel or another tank in your party. Cause at the moment, a warlock, shadowheart and astarion doesn't seem like a good group for survival. You need a warrior or someone who can deal lots of aoe damage like a wizard. And you lack one of those at the moment.

The easiest path is actually to betray the goblins at the gates (just blow their explosives with a fire arrow) + you won't feel like shit at the party.

Thank you, kitting them up the hill to get reinforcement worked wonderfully. I was also able to kill that vile Minthara after the battle ended also. Felt good.

Child killer druid and Mindflayer scum dealt with. The poor devil looking people had to pay the hard price.

I actually found assassinating the goblins in their camp waaay easier than betraying them at the gate. That barrel throwing ogre sucks, I won it by stunlocking him with fear/halt but it was certainly harder than getting the leaders in backrooms and ganking them.

Except when you do it as in some video on youtube: bring all combustibles you can to the area where they appear before the attack from and then one-shot them after the battle starts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLxEmhfAy68

You can do stuff to weaken the Grove prior to going to the goblins camp... i.e. rat out Kagha as a shadow druid. That leads to a smaller fight that will reduce the number of druids you have to fight. Other than that, like has already been suggested, I would make sure you have a tank like Lae'zel in the party and kite them around. If you are playing a "good guy" then the easiest way to win is to just assassinate the goblin leaders. I would make sure you finish any side quests while you are there before killing the Hob as you will trigger the whole camp when you kill him.

1) You should have 4 people. That is what things are balanced against.

Easy, you can do it with one character if you want. Just kite the druids into the different packs of goblins along the way on the hill. And then use some AoE with barrels and surface damage. You're all good.
