We got a co-op session going (easily and flawlessly) last night. By the time we got to the shore and "helped" the trapped flayer in the early game, my partner got to level 2 and so did the NPC cleric. I did not. I looked and had only HALF a level of XP. We started paying attention and when he would jump into dialogue first he'd get the XP and I wouldn't. I'm very far behind now.

We quit out and came back in and it still is doing it.

I've had the same problem when playing a multiplayer game. We created the multiplayer game from the beginning so that we could both create our own unique characters, which worked great and was super fun. The problem was experience sharing. The other player was the host of the session but for some reason, even with them standing beside me in game, I was the only one gaining experience from conversations when I initiate them, which was a pretty big loss for the other player within a couple hours of play, I'm nearly a full 2 levels ahead of them. I was the parties dialogue initiator because I have high deception bonuses and that's the path we were choosing to play.

For those who are experiencing the same problem, we found a solution. It turns out we accidentally left each other's party (we knew this) by clicking the A button on the other player outside of combat. All attempts to rejoin their party were in vain, nothing would work.

Fixed it by completely leaving BG3 (both players) and restarting the client, and loading the game.
