As someone with a potato PC, that first iteration of the game was really hard to get through from a performance standpoint.
I spent a lot of time trying to tweak things, going back and forth between Vulkan and DX11, to make them look halfway decent and run at an acceptable frame rate because my rig is aging.

It was still a little rough around the edges, but better, today when I played.
I decided to switch from Vulkan to DX11 to see if I could notice even more of a difference, and the difference is insane.
Breezing along nicely now without constant stutters because of my old hardware, and it's been damn near silky smooth.

There's a lot of criticism in this section of the forums, and I know that the likelihood of anyone on the dev team reading this is low, but I wanted to take an opportunity to show some appreciation for all of your hard work.

What settings are you playing on? My PC only lags when loading in objects but on Ultra that lag can lead to the game outright freezing until all the loading is done. Also, Vulkan crashes on startup for me.

Running on a custom blend of mostly Medium settings on a rig that's got hardware that's about 5 years old that wasn't exactly top-of-the-line when it was made.
Before, most open areas were ok, but crowded areas like the goblin camp and druid grove were sometimes a nightmarish slideshow on my tired computer.

I think That Larian games' performance doesn't receive enough credit. It is absolutely incredible that there are so few loading screens in this game. performance-wise so far the game wasn't great but if dos2 is any indication it will get there.

Larian's Biggest Oversight, what to do about it, and My personal review of BG3 EA

I wasn't around for DOS1 and 2 EA, but the finished product on both of those games were fantastic.
It's amazing how in just 3 weeks they were able to help me go from mostly playable with some patience and fiddling to damn near flawless. The game is beautiful when you're getting better than 15 fps, lol.

DOS2:DE runs perfect for me on Ultra, no stutter or lag anywhere. If they can get that for BG3 I would be very happy.

And I also want to mention that at least for me good performance is a very rare occurrence in the CRPG genre. had major problems with Pathfinder, POE1-2, and basically every Obsidian game I have ever played (lol)

As someone that runs on low settings, the optimization of this patch has helped a lot. Before in large elevated areas, I would frequently run into instances of the camera gliding past where I had stopped it, and getting super laggy. Haven't experienced that so far in this patch. Also feels much smoother in general. I might bump it up to medium settings and see how it goes.

I actually just recently discovered that I can run DOS2 on Ultra with a very minor overclock. More of a system tuning.
Shame that I discovered that 300+ hours later, lol.

If what I'm experiencing now is such a massive improvement after just 3 weeks of early access development, I should be in great shape to get at least High settings come full release, and that's way more than I was expecting.

Glad to see that someone else got a boost from this patch! I was getting that camera issue too, and the lag was unbearable in some areas.

Vulkan was working "better" for me before, as in it made the game mostly playable, but DX11 is much improved for me after the patch.
I'd advise anyone else having difficulty with performance to switch between the two. There seems to be a noticeable difference for many people one way or the other.
