playing a game with the 1.44 patch from a 1.43 savegame and i have just noticed that the crossbows all do crushing damage rather than piercing damage. Is it meant to be like this? because if it is then what is the point in the crossbow skill? i put points into the skill but when using a crossbow it doesnt do any extra damage, where as my deathknight who has skillpoints in twohanded crushing does extra damage with a crossbow! does anyone else know about this? because otherwise ill just put points in Crushing and use a crossbow that way. Just seems a little odd to me!

And theres still the problem with the battlefields maps reverting back to simply showing the starting off camp and none of the explored area, is this going to be fixed in an upcoming patch? it doesnt really effect the gameplay, but its just rather annoying!

On another note, just a quick question for Larian, is it possible to make the next patches simple updates rather than cumulative patches with all the updates? Ive downloaded around 100mb of patches over the last week and on a simple 56k modem, and thats not the easiest thing to do! i have to put around an hour and a half aside each time to download a patch!cry

Since I don't know how to create a new post yet(shouldn't that be easy?), I'll add to yours - hope that's okay.

I've only patched with 1.44 and now find that all my saved game maps
in BF1 are entirely black except for the characture X's. Can't
see where I'm going nor where I've been.

Any advise?
(I also have a 56k modem - what a bear to download)

Crossbows do crushing damage, normal arrows do piercing damage; when attacking with my archer, the damage each hit will list something like 14 piercing and 65 crushing. Since the Piercing portion of the bow skills was just fixed in the last couple patches, boosting that adds additional piercing damage.

The bonus due to the melee skill two handed crushing damage is a bug, which Larian should fix in one of the next patches now that it has been reported.

There is a Post button at the top of each forum index, to the right above the orange subject / poster / etc menu bar.

Do you mean the minimap / automap? If so, running around a bit may clear that up.

hmm im still confused. Does the crossbow skill work then? because you can only put points in to piercing damage and not crushing damage within the skill. Yet i dont get a skill boost for piercing damage with the crossbow, and it only does crushing damage.

And running around does make the map show up in portions, but its still annoying.

Crossbow and Bow seem to work differntly at long and short range, hence the point blank skill. I think they don't do damage at short range except for point blank and the arrow type damage, so no crushing or peircing. I have noticed that at long range with a fire arrow I get something like Fire 12...Crushing 50...Peircing 12 when I use a crossbow. This would be Arrow Damage, Crossbow Damage, Peircing Bonus, so I think it works.

The crossbow skill should work. Where are you in the game? When I first got a crossbow it only did crushing damage, but started doing piercing damage as I progressed (beginning of the citadel was just crushing, in the imp village it did piercing and crushing, not sure where that changed). Perhaps with lower stats the piercing damage is not significant enough to show up, though it should be with the crossbow skill bonus.

At least the couple cases I checked, using a crossbow close range does half the damage (piercing and crushing) of a ranged attack when not using Point Blank.

ok i see what you mean. I guess ill give it a go, im just at the start of the imp village now. Does the same apply to things like the shadow crossbow, you do piercing damage via your skill boost and you do shadow (or crushing or whatever sort of crossbow it is) damage from the weapons statistics?

After exploring the village and taking a little side trip after trying to leave, in the little mushroom forest to the north west I was doing piercing and crushing damage to the mutants there.

I think the same dual damage applies to shadow bows/crossbows, but don't recall having found any yet (I've seen a shadow version of many other weapon classes).
