Now it's tip&trick but it's also a bug. Beholder is flying and more importantly hovering aberration. It should not fall off the cliff.

Interestingly no one really know how Beholder hovers. It's not a magic hovering and cannot be suppressed by antimagic field. According to Monster Manual for 3.5e: A beholder’s body is naturally buoyant. This buoyancy allows it to fly at a speed of 20 feet. This buoyancy also grants it a permanent feather fall effect (as the spell) with personal range. Monster Manual for 5e doesn't mention any details on this matter.

EDIT: I discovered it by
opening the Iron Flask in cave near the hole. My invisible wizard have 100% to shove it.

I was able to push it as well but it did not fall to its death, only landed across the chasm safely out of harms way while I dealt with the drow and range DPS'd him down.

I see. So if you push Beholder in Underdark, it most probably landed on pathable terrain, which doesn't kill him. I pushed different Beholder to non-pathable chasm in a cave, which seems to insta-kill just anything.

FYI it's a Spectator, not a Beholder

If we are being picky, the spectator is actually too big. Beholders are large (10 foot diameter), but spectators are only medium (5 foot diameter).

You are both right. I am aware it's Spectator I was just too lazy to fix the thread title. And I also agree Spectator in game should use smaller model. Maybe that's why I instinctively write Beholder.

There is one more think to test. According to Monster Manual: Like any beholder, a spectator views itself as the epitome of its kind, and it has an intense hatred of other spectators. If two spectators encounter one another, they almost always fight to the death. So let's open the Iron Flask in Underdark and see what happens.

This is a common problem in games (especially in the Dark Souls series but surprisingly Demon's Souls did not have this problem). It always made me laugh when some flying creature suddenly forgets how to fly.
Developers rarely want to design true flying creatures.
