In Ethel's hut, after getting past the talking door, there's a group of adventurers who seem to have been brainwashed with masks. I rather liked the design of the encounter, and the concept behind it, but I feel as though my expectations weren't matched overall.
When I went into it, obviously my first instinct was to utilize the 'non lethal take-down' feature that up until that point didn't serve much purpose in the encounters previous to this one. Most of the encounters I experienced were either people outright out for my blood like the goblins, or monsters such as the sirens or gnolls. I really did feel that these people, who have to make will saves on each of their turns, were a perfect opportunity to utilize this feature. In fact, I wound up reloading a save several times when my damage rolls on them were a bit too high.
After several attempts, I manage to knock them all out, and I think "Great! I managed to actually save them." So I go to loot them, and of course I take the masks off of them. I was expecting some kind of dialogue but there wasn't really anything, the models didn't even reflect the change when I removed the masks from them. I found it a bit disappointing that all I got out of it was a non-cutscene dialogue option with them after I defeated the Hag, not even so much as a 'thank you' from any of them. In fact they acted rather brashly unfriendly which I found jarring, considering I could have just killed them instead.
I don't necessarily expect a full on proper dialogue, but a little optional reward for not killing them would, in my opinion, be nice. Maybe something simple like a minor magic item or some gold would make that more worth it.
